Real mechs

A japanese company has built some interesting mechs. The 30ft tall one is a bit much, but there is a smaller one that would fit better on a battlefield.

I say this as someone who loves mecha-type robots and so on: They're not practical, not at the technology we have now. They're ponderous and clumsy, mechanically unreliable, difficult to armor, and have no advantages over wheeled and tracked vehicles - only disadvantages.

That might change in near future (look at some of the stuff Boston Dynamics is doing) but ... while that stuff makes me misty-eyed to see someone actually making fun stuff, it's not practical. It doesn't even live in the same city as "practical."

There is one advantage of a vehicle with arms, makes weapons reconfiguration far easier then having to disassemble and reassemble weapon mounts.

In which case, BattleTech.

It's a sitting duck in actual combat, since I don't believe it could outshoot the opposition; it would have to have heavy armour that can absorb a lot of punishment, and then fire back.
