Reactions to the State of Mongoose addresss.

Depends on how much the miniatures actually cost... Also, shop around. Sometimes the smaller shops do great work at a really economical price.

which costs on top of an already expensive hobby.

Well that's the keyword here - HOBBY. And I don't think just simply collecting the miniatures alone counts a whole hobby.

If 20-odd years of miniatures gaming has taught me anything, it's to be very careful chucking rocks at other peoples definition of a 'hobby'. After all, I'm just playing around with toy soldiers, aren't I?

I just think encouraging people to paint their BF EVO models will make this game LOOK better. No Factory in world can do that for us. I dream of a day when there will be a modern warfare themed tabletop game with figures and terrain that are painted just as good as Games Workshop golden demon winning models. The only way that's going to happen is if YOU the people step up and paint the beautiful bare metal models MP will provide us. Ofcouse, ASSUMING, that these bare metal models will be beautiful but I have my hopes.

Hey, sorry if the fact that I like to play the games but don't like painting somehow means I'm not involved in the hobby. The fact is that battlefield Evolution was marketed from the very beginning as "fast and tactical play with pre-painted figures in every box". So you'll excuse me if I'm of the opinion that dropping the pre-paints is bad news.

I have from the beginning asked for both painted and unpainted kits. Along with metal bits to change vehicle series of a model.

IF MP does that in the future fine. But, I will admit my faith (or should I say what little I had), is basically gone.

I plan to upgrade my miniature with Mongrel and MoFo along with 1/56th scale vehicles, or convert vehicles from various sources to 1/64 scale with MP and Eureka Kriegspiel troops, use Pietia's cards along with the MP rule book and continue playing Evo.

I still am expanding my SST armies, ever so slowly, and will continue playing that game also, adding stuff from other company lines.

Good Luck MP, you will need it......

Good bye.

I'm with you. I've got plenty of games I play. I enjoy painting minis but I don't have time to paint my hordes of minis for multiple games. BF:Evo offered me the solice of being able to play a game without the guilt of a silver or primer only army.

Hmph, you'll be back. Everyone always comes back no matter how much we complain. :D

Well.........HOSED AGAIN! I don't know what this NDA is all about, but I'm hearing the death-rattle of BFE. Nothing new for almost 9 months (there's a joke in there somewhere's) and when something is produced, it's going to be metal minis. Not looking forward to that. Similar to an earlier post, on of the major attractions to the game was the pre-painted figures that came with the game. The unit stat's cards helped also. If BFE is moving away from that, how is it any different than other games? Keeping the game simple was great. Here's your troops, here's your data card with information on it; here's some dice and a few rules (2 sheets of rules, initially) and now go play. Simple. I shudder to think what this game is going to become.

As someone above (Paladin I believe) said, I am an avid painter, I enjoy that aspect of the game, but I play too many of them and am beginning to paint commission work. I loved the BFE rules, and I mean LOVED them. The fact that I had to do nothing out of the box to these guys to have them look decent on the table was the only reason I picked the game up initially. I don't need more stuff to paint, but I wanted a decent, modern war game. This seems to not be a part of the deal any more, which saddens me, but I will likely continue playing and wait. I personally have confidence in Mongoose. They produce good games and they are open and communicate with their customers, even if the news is bad. There is only one other gaming company out there that I am aware of that has this level of openness, communication, and a good game (Abberant games: Rezolution if you must know). They (Mongoose) are interested in making their games as good as possible. I firmly believe that. They are also interested in getting them to us as soon as possible. I have seen this with the recent distribution problems here in the US and how Mongoose has handled this. I think that this delay is bad for the game, but I know whatever Mongoose comes out with will be good.

What I don't understand is.......

"Well, we got a phone call shortly after wave 3 had been released. A bunch of guys in a far off country had seen the Battlefield Evolution range and liked them so much, they told their marketing guys that they just had to get us on board to do games and models based on the projects they were working on. "

They liked them so much they wanted them turned to metal, not painted and maybe in a different scale ? If that's liking I'd hate to see them love 'em.

The NDA-company games are going to be prepaints and arriving in late 2008-early 2009. The unpainted metal is Mongoose's attempt to keep BF:Evo alive until they're ready to return to prepaints.

Thats what I took from it as well Lorcan. And I for one am pleased that at least that much is being done. It shows a commitment to providing us with something during this long cold winter (Late 2008) we're facing.

While I sympathize with those who brought up the lack of time/motivation when it comes to painting whole armies (All my Cadian and Catachan box sets collecting dust, Squads of MI, LAMI, and Pathfinders with only a coat of primer... and those PP 15mm moderns!) A few metal minis to supplement an existing force is a great way to add little bits of flavor to the game!

If done right it could even be cheaper than the prepainted plastics.

A blister pack of 3-4 PLA snipers, Marine Snipers, etc. A modification kit for Shadows to pack an M2. Or to put a Recoilless Rifle on your existing Technical.

But again, thats just a wish list.

Back when a box of 30 beaky marines could be posed however you wanted, and didn't cost you supper for a week...

A full squad of units already existing being made in metal is a little much in my opinion, too much to paint.
But again, support, and mod options, that would be awesome.
