Radar clarification

Hi, just got the VaS pdf (rulebook out of stock) Had a game and it's alot of fun. One thing we couldnt find was when you detected ships with radar? It says when they are placed, so is this after deployment? If so the ships that were failed to be detected are undetectable during the game?

If I'm correct, you try to detect on the ships activation. same for night or bad weather.

I took it to be on each activation you roll for each ship that has not been detected. The radar is constantly trying to 'detect' things.

We just roll when you actually want to target a ship.
