question to centauri players

Would you use the Amar if it was upgraded?

lets face it the current Amar sucks, it carries 2 fighters and has minimal firepower, for the same Pl you can get 2 corvans with same amount of fighters, more firepower all round and 2 scouts with stealth to boot.

but what if it was upgraded to have 4 fighters and carrier 2 as a light carrier? plus a bit better weapons? would you centauri players use it?
 
I'm not a Centari player, but would you clarif yis this a 1st or second ed question (i know second ed isn't out, but you could be planning to upgrade it in that!)
 
Damn skippy I would. A ship with four fighters and carrier 2 at skirmish, plus some reasonable firepower, would be very handy. Especially if Centauri fighters are getting tweaked to be useful vs ships.
 
just general interest, could be in either. just want to know what other centauri players want/think. as we know the current amar is pretty poor. especially compared to some other skirmish level carriers. it also gives the centauri a chance to carry more fighters to stand upto the EA a bit better.
 
Those upgrades would be very nice, also a smattering of light weak guns wouldn't hurt it either. They don't need to be able to do anything really just be there.

fair enough. If it makes a ship actually effective rather than a doughnut, I support it, my race or not!
 
I am in favour of more options - as long as they are that - actual options as it makes fighting against people more fun and gives them more opportunities to experiment and win / loose in new ways............... A low level carrier option is, as long as it is good enough, suitably different to other ships of the same way. :D
 
That's pretty generic -- depending on what the "better guns" are, it might not be better, it might be outright broken. 4 fighters is a lot right there, it's a Patrol point; that means the ship itself would make up the other patrol point (two Patrol gives you one Skirmish).

Now, in the real world, we know 4 Raziks/Sentris ain't no Patrol point. But that Amar, even as is, is better than worth a Patrol, so with 4 Fighters and Carrier 2, you might be there already. Even as awful as the rest of the Amar is -- it just needs to be on a par with the Tiraca, and it's already very very large.

Remember that Hull 4 gets a big boost with the Beam revision.
 
well on the better guns then. think of the darkner, but rmove its beams. so it would have 4AD of matter cannons. more useful than twin arrays for sure. even the 4 fighters would actually be a boost.
 
I was thinking more guns, as in a particle array on a turret, 4AD, Weak AF... and maybe loose a couple of dice off the front. Make it a carrier version of the maximus (with less front fire power) so its a light support carrier.
 
well either way. i think the amar wouldnt be so bad if it did have 4 fighters with carrier 2 as it is. provides some options at lower levels.
 
4 Fighters would be good, maybe twinlinks in all direction, 4-6, maybe 6 fwd & 4 everyelse + carrier 2. I suspect the Amar is one of the varients that they are gettibg rid of in 2ed.
 
I think this suggestion is very close. I wouldn't cry bloody murder if a couple(2) of dice of forward-bearing Ion Cannons were added.
 
4 fighters and carrier 2 is quite a large addition, when you consider the next Centauri 'carrier' is the even more dreadful Balvarin. But then I always thought that that heap should have had Carrier 2 as well.

Why not go the whole hog and just remove the Twin Arrays and replace them with Ion Cannons?
4AD Fore, 2AD Port/Starboard while dropping the ranges to 12"?

Apparently it is going to get fixed in 2ed, carrer 2 on it would be nice.
The Amar needs a large fix, to be worth considering, still rather easy to destroy compared to the Balvarian, hull 5 & crap load of hits. The Narn T'Rann also needs carrier 2 & i wouldn't cry to much if it got 6 frazi's & some troops. it's the only carrier doesn't carry any. It loses 12 troops & some firepower, shuttles to gain 3 frazi's. A little extreme.
With Amar ion cannon thing, we could say it a Medium Ion Cannon 12" 6AD twinlink,DD fwd & 4AD Light Ion cannon, 8" just Twinlink everywhere else.
 
It would be a GREAT stop gap for people that don't want to buy a dedicated carrier. I would love it with just 4 fighters... but upgrade the stats and it would be golden :D .

What.... why so much firepower???? This is SUPPOSED to be a skirmish ship not raid!!!!

I would say drop the Ion cannon and most of the twin arrays, this is a carrier not a combat ship... 4 flights of fighters and carrier 2 is its selling point. It needs a couple of guns to protect itself but thats it.
 
like i said, keep the darkners matter cannons, but replacing the beams with 4 fighter flights and carrier 2 would work fine.
