I can think of about 20 Tholian ships from SFB, before going to the NeoTholians. Several PC variants, more than one cruiser type plus variants.

The web rules in the game are VERY simplified and so pretty abstract. In SFB you start dropping counters of web all over the board and track energy fed in, size of the web, strength of the web and all sorts including measuring decay....thats the antithesis of ACtA.

Sounds right up there with root canals for fun.

There have been web rules in the initial playtest material for Battleships (or whatever it is going to be called).

I think the plan was to make clear resin webs. Whether that is still feasible is a whole other question.

General replies:
The plan all along has been to have an average of 55 to 60 ships in each annual release. This includes one new empire and the rest of the units are used to fill out the existing empires.
As always, some emphasis will be placed on the "big 3". The ultra familiar empires from TV - the Federation, the Klingons, and the Romulans; but everyone will get a piece of the action.

For example; Battleships will add the Lyrans, round out the Tholian fleet list and add several new Orion ships, and then fill in some of the gaps in the existing empires lists.

I've seen the rules for Tholian webs and in its current format, it takes about 1 1/2 pages to explain everythng webs can be used for. The rules are quick, easy (compared to SFB!!!), and seem to be thorough. We're playing Tholians this weekend - so we'll know more after that.

In SFB it has its place, once familiar with the rules it is actually fairly quick for a reasonable number of webs but things like that would introduce a whole raft of extra book-keeping and unless someone can demonstrate a system that is in keeping with ACtA's level of complexity it has no place in ACtA - I'll take abstractions e.g. simple density X per Tholian ship in contact over precise simulation of SFB and FC web any day
