Question for NA Fans (it is about Fleets)

Rather than just using the raw 3D images, why not take things a little further?

Over on the Star Fleet side of the equation, Xander Fulton has done a great job of taking some of Sandrine's images of the Starline 2500 designs into more dramatic scenes; see how the Fasthawk went from this to this, as but one example.

Perhaps an artist could do something similar with the 3D images in version 1 of the FotFS file?

I must admit Xanders work is extremely impressive - I don;t really understand why his talent is not used more often!?

You don't know if he does commission work do you?

I do feel painted models are important - especially if you have manage to aquire a talented painter that you can cultivate and look after appropriately.......

Painted miniatures _are_ important.

Okay, this is what we will do;

1. After final approval from Holistic (hope that won't take too long), we will post the file on Drivethru, likely at $14.99, our usual PDF price for a book of this nature. This will be automatically updated as and when.

2. If you have already pre-ordered the hardcopy (or are about to), make sure you are registered on Drivethru - we will send you the PDF free as soon as it is available, and send on the hardcopy as that appears.

3. NA tournament, Mongoose HQ, using the rules from Fleets, June 30th or August 4th?

Groovy! I think I'll settle for PDF version only. Combined with shipping it would cost more than double of pdf and I don't need the dead tree version. PDF is juuuust fine ;)

Fleets of the Fading Suns is currently at Holistic, awaiting their final word.

However, if you can't wait, we have just posted a complete preview on Planet Mongoose!

Oh, and if you select Noble Aramada on the menu on the right and scroll down, you will see some of the new ships that will soon be flying your way!

All of the changes sound great.

Can I ask a question though, if you're changing fighters to make them more effective (by basically making them free). Is there a means for Al-Maliq or Kurgen fighters (the standard ones not upgraded) to hurt ships.

All the other factions have burn out weapons so weak fighter weapon can be fired after a ship has burned out the shields. Kurgan and Al-Mals don't have burn out. So if you take an un-upgraded carrier and the enemy has no fighters your fighters are wasted (unless you get a jammy critical).

Is this being changed (ie a means for fighters to hurt shielded ships or a means for those races to take down shields /new rocket type etc) so like the othe factions they can be used against ships.

So the rumoured fighter change was just that they are free?

Kinda dissapointed. Sounded bigger change than that!

But hopefully it really works.

The preview looks good, but i have one question. What happened to the al Malik Serendipity Scout Cruiser that was mentioned in one of the earlier previews? Will that not be making an appearance after all?

Even if my normal fighters cannot hurt ships, this line intrigues me

"These include Battle Shields, making fighters more durable, and electronic decoys which force incoming attacks onto a single (less valuable) fighter"

This will all depend on the full set of rules, but I'm thinking i could have some electronic decoys on some attakhan fighters (the 2+ dodge ones) leading my Martyrs into battle. So the more important fighters reach to target. Previously the Martyrs were a bit too slow and easy to kill for many to reach the target.

Not just that, think of my Hazat. Two Trafalgars with a couple of scouts will ensure that several ships that i want to target has no shields and fairly heavily bashed from the 6D of Heavy Blasters each. On top of that the swarm of 24 Daggers following up with (upto 48 AD from them) and all for about 750 pts!

and if you think that is fun, look at your Li-Helan carrier and fighters :) ......or the Hawkwood!

This with our current play styles seems almost a little too powerful, however it just means we'll need to adapt and the carriers will become alot more common, even if its just for defence. However it all comes down to the wording of the new rules.

The Serendipity will be making an appearance a little later.

We did a lot of playtesting for this rule, with several different variations. We are confident you will adapt and overcome :)
