Question for Mr. Sprange

Lord Kruge

Mongoose
I got the impression from reading lots of threads on the subject that the Conan IP owner was waiting until the Mongoose Conan license expired and then was going to want a renegotiation probably hoping on increased value from the movie attention.

Truly a tragedy considering the stunning plans you had for the license.

So my question is, once the bidding war begins, will Mongoose be in the thick of it? Is there a chance that the plans you had for the license will come to fruition, even if much later then planned?

*Shrug*

If asked, we will make the same offer we always have, for the products we always intended to make. If the licensors believe they can find another publisher who will a) pay them more and, more importantly, b) actually sell more books, we wish them the best of luck.

Matt - use this time to sweeten the deal to CPI and make them an offer they can't refuse. Don't wait - no matter what they say. You have history and a definitive publishing record - no guessing or wondering on CPI's part.

Anyway, I know you know all this - I'm just trying to get you to commit some resources now - don't wait!

Then maybe we can still get a book or two this year.

Thanks for the reply. When MRQ came out, I wasn't really thrilled with the idea of MRQ Conan, but after reading MRQII, my opinion has changed. I think MRQII would be a good fit for Conan and can see how the design of MRQII can easily incorporate some of the best elements of Conan d20, like Combat Maneuvers and the Magic System.

Well, I hope the license holders come to their senses.

This is the eternal debate in this forum. Conan OGL or Conan MRQ? It tore the fans apart there but the discussion seems definitely closed now that CPI expressed they weren't interested in Conan MRQ.

Hmm, my impression wasn't that CPI said "No Runequest", but that they said "No new game system the last year of the license" because they thought they could get more money due to the movie.

Given what I've heard about the upcoming movie, I don't know how much revenue the property holders will be able to take in after its release. :? :(
