Question about spells?

Is there in the works of more spells that maybe forgotten form the time of atlantis to present?I am woundering I have the book of skelos and waiting on Stygia to be delivered to me.I have alot instore for my group and I have till Dec. 2 to have this part of the adventure to be complete.I have a a Scholar in the lower part of this Citadel with some of his cohorts and plan on him being a very intresting person for the party to deal with.I am planing on him to be able to escape this first encounter if things go as planed.(Hopefully)

With regards to NPC's spellcasters/magic you as the GM should feel free to give them unique spells/powers. It helps perserve the mystery of magic when they do something the PC's arent' expecting/though was impossible. Use the existing spells in the core book and Skelos as guidelines for how expensive/powerful the NPC's magic should be and roll with it.

As for having your spellcaster escape... the best advice I can offer is to make sure he has sufficent meat-shields and to have him abandon the fight and leave early. He doesn't need to flee in terror, he can make it look like disdain for the PC's or that he has a pressing need elsewhere but if you let him stick around long enough to become engaged in combat with the PC's then it will be very hard for you to pull him out without giving him some cheesy escape-tick.

As a rule PC's love to gank sorcorers early and often. If they know or even suspect what he is they will prioritize him as a target and work hard to cut off his escape routes.

Hope that helps.

Well he is a level 4 scholar and I have able to cast necro spells but they will be already there before the party gets there, plus I will have one 2 soldiers and a borderer there for extra punches

Telekinesis is always fun. Imagine the PCs line up to charge the Sorcerer, only to have him hurl a bench that sends them reeling back; very cinematic.

There is also Shadow Walk which makes it seem like he just disappears. Althought it requires some hide and stealth checks for the sorcerer to pull off.

This may seem like a totally novice or obvious question, but since we're on magic:

I just started really reading through it to finally add the magical baddie arch-villain to my campaign, and the metion of Advanced Spells isn't really followed through with, so the only thing I can assume is that every spell beyond the first in any school is "advanced".

Have I got that right?

Yup. There are only two types of spells: basic and advanced. The basic ones are the ones you get when you learn a new sorcery style (eg. Entrance for the Hypnotism style). Everything else is an advanced spell.

That seemed like a really stupid question, so thanks for not giving me grief.

 Merry Christmas from the Jolly Lord. I am the trickster imp Grief. May your games be cursed with ADD players and bad BO. May your GM's dice roll 20's and your character's roll 1's.

Yeah those Advanded Dungeon & Dragon players can be a rough bunch.... just make them bend bars or lift gates, they'll be stuck for hours.... :-)

What did I miss something?

Then what would be a bonus spell? And I have finnaly recieved my Stygia book yesterday :-) so now I have mnore of an idea of what to have in the lower level of the Citadel.

A Bonus Spell is an additional spell a Scholar receives due to a high ability modifier (I forget which one).

It's the same as D20 Wizard receiving extra spells per level for a high INT score.

So you would be able to pick an extra spell even if it is an advanced one then?Right?

Correct, the bonus spell description states that it is a bonus advanced spell. You can't pick a basic spell though.

Yes. The Scholar gets a bonus spell at level 3 and every fourth level thereafter if he has a high enough Int bonus (see the table on page 59). These bonus spells are chosen from the advanced spells of any of the sorcery styles he already knows.
In fact, you are not allowed to choose a basic spell as a bonus spell as that would mean you were learning a new sorcery style (which you can only do when you get the New Sorcery Style class feature on levels 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20).

EDIT: Damn, Foxworthy beat me to it!
