Queen/Factory Bug By Gauntlet

Gauntlet-

Banded Mongoose
Hey everybody, so four nights straight working in the wee hours has finally given me the biggest bugs ive ever seen... I cant recall seeing anyone build a larger arachnid... which is awesome

So- a while back there was talk of how people would make their queen bugs, and the nature of queens, and I purposed this idea....

Well a looong time later and I finally have the parts to do it...

I was inspired by austrailian honey ants, which take a worker and immobilize it in the underground hive, feeding it and it stretches and stores honey for the foodless/dry seasons... aborigines will occasionaly dig them up and eat them... I have to say they look tasty to me...

So- these things are called repletes and in a sense so is this bug, I consider it a arachnid queen, but not the super hive controlling queens of the CGI or the Mongoose book, this ladies' profession is very very clear! Crank em Out! She is more accurately described as a factory bug.

So as you can see I merged a thorny tanker and a plasma bug together to make this monster! She is served by 12 chariot bugs (if I had more I would add more) the little servants come from a hole to her side wait underneath for an egg to be deposited from her ovi-poster (plasma bug piece) which is filled with a honey-esque nutrient solution,

once dropped the servant carries the egg to one of three entrances which lead to vast store houses for eggs as reserve forces for the arachnids. The eggs are species neutral and require the attention of a nurser bug to be born as anything other than a worker bug... this would occur at hatcheries closer to the surface.

Anywho, the tunnels lead back tot he orignal tunnel the servant came out of ... thus they act as a living tribute to the assembly line.

Now this piece is meant as the objective for an underground scenario, particullarly say for pathfinders charged with capturing one, a rarity as the Arachnids would usually kill their queens instead of let their genetic secrets be unveiled. (From the Book) As such Im writing a pretty detailed scenario for this piece, but the Queen's abilities reflec tthe sheer numbers of bugs surrounding and protecting her as opposed to any telepathic abillities like Mongoose's.

Anywho Ill be posting the scenario rules with some pics of the Queen on a terrain board soon!

Hope you like it!

Gauntlet,

That is one awesome conversion.

These are my favorite posts because they make me want to dig out my miniatures and start working on them again to get them finished, very inspiring.

Hey, any chance you can re-post some of your other conversions? I'm sure they're buried deep a few pages down if not completely gone when they cleaned up the forums. At least a group shot would be cool.

Thanks again for posting your latest creation. :D

Great job! The thing that I like most is when you ever play at Gauntlet's house he has a "bowl" of tasty grapes to snack on, appropriately themed for SST games! Just remember to look closely before munching or it might be a honey ant.

To Buships- Yeah you hit it right on the money, I have a big bowl with three big things of fake grapes, originally for a alien plant life terrain... Still have a ton, but now for working on a hatchery some day lol

To Bug Hunt- well ive been thinking of doing a post of continuous pic updates like Galatea does, but I didn't want to cramp his style- so

Galatea - that cool with you? (probably but hey I like being sure)

Also Bug hunt there is a good chunk if not 90% of all of them up in the Gallery for arachnids.

To Everyone- Thanks a bunch!

PS. She measures at just shy of 12 inches from tip of ovi-poster to tip of antennae.

Very cool. Must have been costly. I like the paint job.

I'm sure you can convert something else from the leftover bits...

Well, that's true...to finish out the SST v1 rules I'd just need to do the Bug Queen, the Skinnie Brutes, and the Skinnie Brute Tarn riders...

My post count goes up even if I don't do it Mage.

Hey Gauntlet, mind your queen being the coverchild for the card?
