Mongoose
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From Planet Mongoose with edits: we also have to pull away from Starship Troopers - however, I'll be dropping by the SST forum soon with something that might make SST players a great deal happier >miniatures production is being mothballed<

Guys mongoose has ALWAYS had good..no GREAT ideas and high hopes....they just seem to go out on a limb only to have it drop out from under them.....they need to pair it back, take a good hard look at the market and what it is crying out for, then roll up their sleaves and deliver it..........SST had great ideas SOME great miniatures, and several LOUSY ones and some promising miniatures
(viking, skyhook, tac fighter) that would be useful in a much wider market....if they could could sit back dust themself off and narrow the focus down and finally DELIVER on the things that people are really looking for.....I mean, we all know that the big models are not going to be lead, any chance the anoucement will be that they'll still be released? Personally I KNOW these peices would sell.....AND no doubt pick up sales from those who play 40k and cant afford Forgeworlds nice but OVERPRICED models

I seriously think MGP need to start branching off into categories. I spoke to Matt about this a few months following the release of BF:Evo when we had been waiting months and months for the next wave.

The biggest problem I can see is that Ian was controlling the entire minaitures process and the majority of the design going on was from Adrian. This hinders the process greatly. A team is needed. Same for RPGs. Or at least, this is how I feel.

I'm really disappointed with the whole thing. Rebel minis are taking MA and literally running with it, within months, they have released 3 new armies and are releasing a new advanced rulebook with background and rules to design your own armies.
Sure, it's a small game, but its a REALLY small company. MGP is a large company that has the prospects to do all this. I can understand Gangs having very few minis, although we would like more. I can understand BFEvo and VAS having no minis. ACTA was a godsend to many people as a new Bab5 game after Bab5 wars was no longer in creation. MGP will lose a lot of support when they stop selling it. SST has a large fanbase that needs constant feeding because it is mostly made up of GW followers or Privateer press gamers. So surely this means all focus can be put on one minis game whilst the others work on RPGs and the management just makes sure everything runs smoothly and to deadlines.

Admittedly, put me in Matt's boots, I would not know what to do.

It's difficult to side with anyone. :?

(But it does kind of remind me of losing all the GW games I enjoyed).

Although two months ago when I decided to get into SST's it was with the knowledge it was a dead game, I quickly became excited when I found these forums and found that there was going to be more stuff forthcoming! A few days after decding to take up SST I decided to also take up the Warhammer RPG... Well, My gaming soul has now been pretty well crushed....

I'm pretty much in alignment with you, Rob. I want to take an optimistic look here, give the benefit of the doubt, and I haven't been burned nearly so bad as some others, since I only ever just bought the books anyway.

But it's REALLY hard to look at this repeated teasing, at the kicked-back release dates and promise after promise, not to mention all the grandiose plans that repeatedly surface for "branching out" further still, and not feel just a little...

...spheres of the cerulean persuasion?

the biggest issue that have with the whole deal is that they had/have such promise......some really good ideas ...but,well they get ahead of themselves and spread themselves too thin......I wish them luck fixing the issues and I hope they can turn things around

I think making promises and failing to back them is poor business practise - Dont promise till you have them in your warehouse.

Gee! Where have I heard that before? Hmmm...

Regards.

True...promises and solicitation.......
The LONG ago solicitation(Stateside at least) and prerelease online images of the Viking.valkerie etc Sold SST to my local game club and game stores, particularly among the 40K crowd who wanted them for Imperial Guard armies . had one gamer ask the gamesstore to pre order 10 of them..(put down 50% deposite- got it back later once it was clear the product was never going to be released). had a group here who dropped some serious cash .... after the initial burn they droped ALL mongoose product, unless a customer specificly asked for it....none did till til Diamond solicited the Forth for SST:EVO and that never materialized either.......

Nothing like being the Mongoose Infantryman having to explain why there's a delay and what's up with the lack of x figure or so on.... yeah...

Exactly!

Out of curiosity, and being fairly new to the forum and the game, why are there plastic LAMI guys featured in the Klandathu book, but only mettle guys around? Mind you I think the mettel ones look a lot better (although I might have some complaints about bad molding if I had bought them new...)?

The facility making the Plastic LAMI kinda had an accident with the plastics, so the metal ones were made as an apology to the fans, and they were, for a good amount of time, a pretty good price.

Because of the accident at the facility, the air assets ended up being bumped to the right a lot.

@ J2talk, You can play 40k without Forge World models. However I agree that they are way overpriced.

My only question is why? I can't believe that this was an easy decision to make, nor a spur of the moment choice. So why not let us know they are having trouble instead of dropping a bomb on us.

With yet another promise.....

_____________________________________________________________True......but my point is/was that some of the people who 'd like to pick up some of the forgeworld items, cannot afford to or refuse to continue to support GW's product.....Also the Viking and Valkerie would make a great alternatives to Rhinos/Landraiders or chimera's if you wanted a truely unigue army......My gaurd army was designed as an Air Cav unit.....
