Progress on 2e

but then it has been said that the shadows will have a smaller shadowship, which probably won't look as Naff as the hunter.

I guess we'll know if we see one. It's just at this point the Shadows have all of four models(Ship, Scout, Hunter, Fighter) so by removing the Hunter before we've seen the new model(FA Ship maybe?) means they're down to three models.

I think it was said earlier they get one a new ship but also loose the hunter - which looks horrible, so not actually a new ship? would make sense if using AOG size shadow ship to represzent like Vorlon transports?

I hope there is room for several new / varient Shadow vessels - its in the show, (and if it was not its been said on SOOO many occasions that most ships are made up anyway)

give em (and the Vorlons) a bit more choice.........

What do we want? More Shadows!

:D

Well actually I want more Narn. But I feel for the Shadows so I was giving them a bit of support.

In "Points of Departure" we are told that the EA cannot even track the Minbari

But in "In The Beginning" the Prometheus cannot get more than a silhouette of the Minbari, but enough to hit with weapons fire

As with most TV there is no consistency...

I always figured that though they might have been minimally stealthed, that they weren't really powered up for a war, so at the time there stealth might have been lacking, or it just might be something material that enhances there stealth fields, like in the game harpoon there were some different types of ways of tracking the enemy, besides just radar, and sonar, so I figured it was just a combination of different stealth technologies to get there, for all I know it could have been that crystalline covered alloy that diffused and sensors so much they couldn't get a more detailed scan then a vague silhouette.

Notes I deducted Minbari used crystalline covered armor for there ships when they were making the victory class ships and said it was a minbari technology that could disperse %80 of the energy of a energy weapons attack

Note About the Stealth Field I just heard Ranger Lennear (spelling?) use it when he was spying on the centauri attacking a league convoy.

Well from what I know the shadows are getting a younger shadow ship as more or less a direct replacement for the hunter, and that means youll be able to field shadows that look like shadows more often :D

It would still be nice to get that destroyer varient in too though (maybe as a battle level choice in a similar vein to the Vorlon Destroyer/Transport combo)

I for one dont mourn the loss of the hunter tbh. Sure its not Mongooseses fault (it does look just like the one from the show) but its an ugly ugly crap looking ship. :P

yeah they just got a silluete but the minbari where not hiding or useing steath remember they opended all gun ports so they could be seen and the ships new where all there gun ports where at. it was stated as the norm when they meet another race not previously known. and later on sheridan stated during the war they could not lock on to any of there ships because of stealth technology. that was the episode where the runaway minbari warcruiser showed up at B5 to martyr them selves. the movie was the only time in the whole war the EA was able to lock on the rest of the time they ramed the minbari ships or hoped they hit.

there was a beam armed scout (destroyer) in "shadow dancing" seen in the background firing at some whitestars or warbirds
Whitestars. Maybe they stole the EA's Laser/Pulse Array technology...

That just shows that stealth can be turned on or off. I've had it turned off when I've gone crippled.

Do modern ships move in full combat mode 24/7? I don't think so. So I think your idea might be correct reason(and is what I believe as well).

Stealth was good enough that they didn't get full profile but not fully activated yet(they weren't expecting an attack...) so silhouette was still visible and just maybe some general idea about the location. Then it's matter of firing and hoping for best.

Lennier. And yes he very likely used it. Otherwise how on earth those centauri ships wouldn't have noticed fighter attaching itself to them

Cos there wasn't anyone on board the Centauri ships to notice it? Just some Drakh pods.
This discussion has been done before many times ;)

I just PRAY to all the gods that the telepath rule will be tweaked in a way that it doesnt totally screw a Shadow player. Even though it is in the series I hate the Telepath rule versus the shadows. If for any reason you fight a telepath heavy army which one can get in a campaign, might as well leave the system as being shut down for 2 turns and taking a beating just sucks. Not to mention the telepath roll ignores stealth which I dont understand. Anyway I think making a CQ checkof 9 or 10 to see if you can do it first and then do a roll off might be more balanced. Then again I could be seeing things from just one side. :D

I think telepaths are over-rated... they are very hard to get, they can only be gotten on 2 races (I think?) and by one of the "other duties" rolls. They do sound scary to a Shadow player, but have you ever actually faced one in battle? I've never, ever seen one used.

I am in 100% agreement with you there! Another example of a rule, based on observations from the series, which is just NOT FUN! You sit there for a while (2 turns min) and just take damage (more often than not you just die as the opponent keeps jamming you) based on a single die roll....It is fairly obscure though I'm a little afraid if they've chosen to let the Psi-Corp faction may be able to do it on a regular basis in V2...I certainly hope not.

I did suggest elsewhere here a "refit"/ "other duty" that would give the ship a telepathic pilot which would make the ship immune from jamming which I think would be nice...... :?:

Trouble is, a ship's pilot can't be "upgraded" like that can it? The only way would be to get a new pilot who is a telepath, which would remove all of the other uppgrades and refits which had been applied...

Supose it depends on how much of the refits are to the ship and how much to the pilot - I'm at work so can't recall the refits but aren't most bonuses to hull, speed, weapons range etc? perhaps the Ship just abosrbs the former pilot and its abilities, making way for a new pilot? (or some other fluffy plot thing)

I always liked the idea that the Vorlon and Shadow ships were the true beings and the smaller human sized ones extensions of their consciouness - even though prob not right.
