Programmer's Day

Russia has official public holidays for almost any profession one can ima-
gine (I wonder if there is an Assassin's Day, too ...), so there obviously
has to be one for programmers as well.

Probably no Assassin's Day, and probably no Dictator's Day, Icepick Day or Polonium Day either ...

That's actually different. To the Russians, they're patriotic defenders of their country's interests.

I'm sure that if we Brits were as enamoured of national holidays and inclined to drop everything and celebrate at the drop of a hat - any hat - that we'd come up with our own version, say Spooks Day, Special Forces Day, that sort of thing. Even though we know that their jobs involve assassination, slaughter and acts of sabotage.
