HyrumOWC said:Beyond cost, another reason why you don't see many box sets is that retailers tend to hate them. They're harder to place in racks and they damage more easily than books.
On top of that, they're usually shrinkwrapped which is something a lot of consumers hate. Most people who buy games like to flip through the product before buying.
Hyrum.
I like hardcovers and boxes. And of course softcovers too.

No seriously it depends on the content of the book. But if I have the choice either hard- or softcover with same content and not much difference in price, I will take the hardcover. And boxes are not a hazzle for me, because the most games I buy online. So I know in advance if a game does interest me or not. And dont forget that boxes have a nice additional value for the gamer. He can put in his dice, character sheet, pencils etc.
German gamers seem to like boxes. The new CoC "orient express" books from Pegasus ships with a nice box. As far as I know there has been a hot discussion about hardcover vs. box for this particular product at the CoC forums for some time. At the end they made a box, so I think they thought the people liked it better.
BTW: do you intend to create a Scifi setting with MRQ OGL too?
