I suppose it depends how you view the forums. Personally I see them as being a place for the discussion of the given subject, in this case CTA:NA, which includes those airing the view that they don't like it. Don't worry, these views are surely going to disappear; predominantly, after a month or so but at the moment people are responding to the announcement of the games release and the announcement of the setting (after all they are views about NA and there isn't exactly anywhere else to air those views; sticking it in the Victory at Sea forum would be a little bit silly).

I think an affordable entry into a new iteration of the ACTA system is a good thing, especially since some of the ships I can knick for proxies (half the Decados would make good Centauri stuff and the other half would be great for Paks).

I certainly have my eye on a number of the models as new B5 ships 8)

I actually find myself excited to see the ships. One reason I didn't get into Nobel Armada in the first place was the lack of more then a few ships per faction. With larger fleets I will give it a look.

I'm looking at some of the ships proxy for the Gaim and the Hurr.

So, when they have the first NA tourney at Mongoose Towers; will we be able to substitute ships for Decados ships? :P

I will probably buy the rules and give it a play to see how it feels, but as for buying the mini's I will wait and see; they had better be good!

I think Mongoose should concentrate on ensuring the minis are top notch, and offering the best support to a well tried ruleset, and not rely on the setting to sell it

Hopefully so. ACTA brushed-and-polished is a pretty good ruleset.

Pssst! That is what we are doing :)

I'll resist the obvious quip right now.. Amu....ggrrrr..... ok, couldn't resist after all!

can we have some better pics of the Minis Matt?
also, fix the website! very unstable right now

two brittish Diggers, oh my.

I am quite shocked the setting has a fan art page, Stick a link up, lets have a mooch!

Hiffano,

Nothing wrong with sharing a negative opinion. If anything it's important in this early stage because it gives feedback to the Mongoose. Of course, it's far better if it's constructive criticism, but sometimes you can't place concerns beyond a gut feeling, and with games that's fair IMO. Now, if the same person repeatedly bashed the game with no constructive feedback, repeating themselves over and over, that would be another story...

As for my opinion, I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I am completely unfamiliar with the setting, but reading the primer on it now. (Cheers on that, Clanger!) I think I'm going to have to see the miniatures in the flesh, because the pictures really aren't selling me (a lot of them look very plain), although I like the idea of ships that don't follow a "traditional" design like the Grigori Cruiser. I like VaS, which is an ACTA offshoot, so the game has that in its favor, and boarding actions sound like a great mechanic for a space combat game. Still, the idea of playing a space combat game in only two dimensions does not sit well with me.

Of course, if I like the fluff enough, I may just dive in and write something up for S&P...:)

That was the point STC. I don't think i will buy the setting because XYZ is constructive.
I don't like, i won't buy helps no-one and isn't worth bothering. it's like those people who write in to points of view stating they didn't like Jeremy clarksons comment, well don't smegging watch it then...

Note for the Colonials. Jeremy is the presenter on the popular TV show Top Gear, he has a habbit of upsetting people with sticks up their bottoms.

As far as I understand the setting (only from the signs and portents) they chose is very shieldheavy, and not as fighterheavy as the B5 setting.

Does anyone of you know how it looks in regards to beams?
(Are beams there as widespread as in B5, or are there less beams or even no beams at all?)

There are no Beam type weapons in the Fading Sun's / Noble Armada Universe which I can see. Though that is Human type Technology, who knows what the Vau have behind their secrective boarders.
