Prepaint Colour Chart

I have been missing from the boards for a long time, really hanging back for SSTEvo and dropping in from time to time. I have been complacent about the delays and accept the game will arrive when it arrives.

I am not sure if the question has been asked in my absence or not. While looking at Poi's post re the previews to date I was thinking that while I may not do a total repaint I would like to add highlighting and detailing. This brought to mind the question of the publication of a refrence chart for colour matching of the prepaints. Any comments?

That would be interesting, since the work is contracted out, are the colors guaranteed to even match between batches? I haven't looked at the BFE figs hardly at all, so I wouldn't know how uniform the uniforms are. For highlighting, you probably need to just get close. For my painting, I just find a bottle of a lighter shade. You could probably do the same by taking a fig into the paint aisle and match up the color samples. For me, a problem with that approach might occur when I tried to explain to the kids that I am allowed to take toys into the store, but they aren't.

If they're made in China, hopefully they use a low-lead palette.

Although close enough can good enough the whites and reds on the FORTH could be a problem. These two colours are not easy to match, the slightest difference can look pretty bad and colour charts are often ink colour which are not always a true representation.

I shoul dalso point out the other problem I have is that I live in Papua New Guinea, there are no hobby stores in Papua New Guinea. I get all my stuff sent up form Australia so a colour chart is what I need or at least would be handy.

Could we even trust a posted color chart? I mean, even if the factory had been finalized and Mongoose was churning out reference material by the pallet, colors don't always transmit well to the monitor or printer in my basement. Any color chart would only be as good as the software used to display it, and I'm not going to install graphics design calibration software just for this .

By way of colour chart I mean a proper chart that refernces specific paint colours either by paint manufactuer or by international colour codes either way they can then be cross referenced easy enough. But you are right merely posting a colour sample would not suffice.

That is a great suggestion for people mixing old figures they haven't painted yet with the new figures. Something like listing Vallejo Color # XX for the boots, Color #XY for uniforms, etc.

Most of my stuff is already painted now, so at best the prepaints will become new platoons or swarms, worst case I repaint them to my standard.
