Power Points for monsters

How do you calculate Base Power Points for sorcery-using monsters?

Are there any guidelines for this in Scrolls of Skelos, or might it be inferred from the examples in that book?

As for selection of styles and spells, I guess it's okay to just pick whatever is appropriate when creating the monster... Unless some guideline says otherwise, of course.

I would guess that you would have 2 choices. In the case of a spell-like ability, it could be used X times per day. Also, you could use the same formula for determining PP's for PCs.

Using the same formula as for scholar is an option, yes. That would amount to 4 PP + Wis bonus (+1 at 6th, 10th, 14th and 18th level/Hit Dice).

However, the few examples of monsters with PP in the main rulebook do not seem to follow this formula. In fact, they seem to get 10 PP + Wis bonus, regardless of level/HD. But due to the poor editing elsewhere in that book, it's not easy to know whether this is in fact a rule, or just an error or coincidence... :?

Any thoughts ?

Just give them twice as many as you think they will need.

If your players whine, smite them.

:D

That approach might be appropriate in certain cases, but on the other hand it's nice to have a common set of consistent rules... so that our games don't become completely arbitrary... (AD&D 2nd Edition, anyone... ? )
