Poseidon Super Carrier

Mongoose
Hi,

Could someone please give me some idea of the size of the EA Super Carrier Poseidon model length and width please.

Thanks

Martin

Its about 3 inches wide and 7 long as a rough estimate off top of my head (dont have it with me :P). It is a big sonuvabitch, and a very nice model too. It's just a shame it sucks so mightily in game terms (the Posseidon box set is great value though even if you never use the carrier its well worth it just for the starfuries :D)

Yep I got two just for the fighters..although the stands didn't come with one box andseveral were missing from the second

I've used one of the four segment crew section's on an Omega to create a variant...maybe a B5 Era Avenger

What specifically turns people off of the Poseidon?

Hull 4? War choice? Poor weapon range? Poor movement/manueverability?

Seems to me if you hide it behind an asteroid field (assuming there is one), or far in a corner until some of your other ships have engaged, it might do fairly well

Great looking model - could be worth it in a campaign, especially with the new carrier and fighter rules.

New carrier rules.... did I miss something?
Also, did I hear someone mention a 'scramble!' special action somewhere? I can't find either in Armageddon or Revised/SFOS

Scramble! Scramble! special action is in SFOS.
for me its hull 4 and poor speed. It will die to crits far too easily. I think its better under Amageddon than SFOS, but we'll see.

Much as I like it, have to say that it's died on the first turn both times my enemy has used it against me. Mind you, both times I was using the Vorlons (SFOS vintage). With firepower like that aimed at a carrier with hull 4, even 120 odd hits accumulated very quickly.

If you do use one, make sure your enemy can't get to it without exposing their throat to your big guns.

Hi,

Speaking as someone using a poseidon in a campaign now, I think that it is more usefull underthose circumstances than under any other, although the second time around I would buy it as a reinforcement. The bonus to campaign initiative is usefull, and in the big games that a campaign can produce there is a battlefield role - in a 7p war game, while it remains a big target, it is not quite the priority it would be in smaller games. As reinforcements, it also brings in fighters at a discount.

Having played with it a couple of times now, I'd say the crit vulnerability coupled with low speed is waht nails it. It is very easy to rendert he ship dead in space, with no opportunities for movement. In circumstances where it is the priority target, this means it is pretty mucha write off form turn one. In games where other ships pose a more immediate threat, it can lurk in the background with relative sucess.

Email sales@mongoosepublishing.com

Explain and I'm sure they'll send you the missing parts.

Ships with the Carrier trait may automatically replenish two lost flights of aux craft during the Repairs & Reinforements phase each turn. This is done freely and does not cost RR points. You are permitted to move flights between ships after each has received these free flights.

Pretty good in the long run, assuming your force has fighters worth using.
