Sorry for the absence (Don't worry FreeTrav! I'm working on the article now that I succeeded my Inspiration roll!).
But anyways, my family started a game recently. My dad (who is an old hand at Traveller) is Refereeing, while me, my older brother, and my little sister are the players. Dad is referring to the Beltstrike book (not that we're following the campaign...); and yes, we do have a 5km diameter portable Dyson Sphere. That's powered by 10,000 year old technology (a different race of Ancients) mixed with technology from the end of the Long Night. It also has an AI.
That has discovered Red Dwarf.......
I'm a Belter (3 terms Worker) and I'm the go-to gal, what with having Jack-Of-All-Trades 3. My older brother is a former Imperial Marine (3 terms Star Marine). With a Plasma Rifle. And my little sister used be Imperial Navy (3 terms Flight). Who rolled two ships boats when mustering out.
And then we got the value of a scout ship (from what, Dad didn't say...). Long story short, we sold the ships boats and then spent two days designing a ship based on the Free Trader hull (cause we liked it). Followed by 8 months of jumping around and making money. 1.5 MCr and a shopping trip later (two girls in the group, what do you expect), we began the adventure.
Of course, we had all met before during character generation. Here's that epic and drunken adventure:
All three of us in the same system, with all three of us in a bar. Meeting for the first time. The belter and the marine get into a fight. Then a terrorist takes over a ship and is planning to ram it into the navy ship that the fighter jock is stationed on. So, the belter finds a ships boat, the marine rounds up some more marines, and the fighter jane points the thing where the belter tells her to point it. I got Astrogation 1 out of it, the Marine gets Tactics (Military) 1 out of leading a ship assault with a hangover, and I forgot what my little sister rolled for her skill.
Later on, the fighter jane gets a commission for saving the ship, the Marine gets nothing (He did a bad thing that led to a good outcome, so his superiors did nothing), and I got in legal trouble for stealing the ships boat. I had to track down the owner and get retroactive permission, which gave me Investigate 1.
So now we have been unleashed on the universe with a portable Dyson Sphere that has Jump 20 and Thrust 19. And it's run by a sarcastic AI that thinks Empy Stephy is a right ***hole.
On the other hand, we:
[*]Can outrun anything in known space
[*]Have enough firepower to blow away most capitol ships (and maybe a few planets)
[*]Have no fuel requirements
And I'm crazy enough to come up with a plan for us to Jump to Capitol, use our weapons to carve a giant middle finger into one of the moons, and then proceed to airdrop a case of beer on top of the Imperial Palace before jumping out.
Did I mention the Space Viking plans? With fake beards and horns on our vac suits? And the raiding of ships for their beer? And using said beer as c-fractional planet crackers?
Yeah, me and my older brother are crazy.
And I've had no sleep!
