Just a quick poll.

At the moment, Judge Dredd is very much a toolkit game, letting you do whatever games you like.

However, does it need a bit more of a defined direction?

Specifically, do we need a set of Force Lists. A Justice Department list, with a list of judges you can buy, a Street Gang list, a Sov invasion Force list, etc?

Basically, something that both sets limits and gives direction to players in terms of the models they use.

yes. As a gamer with limited time, I would appreciate more turn-key options...but it could even be in the form a few well-balanced scenarios in the appendix, with sets of specific defined forces. It would be even cooler if it was a set of scenarios that fit together to tell a complete story, while introducing concepts and units along the way.

It's not a difficult system to whip up forces - at least it shouldn't be if all the unit/equipment costs are there and balanced.

Having just voted no.....I'm about to say yes. But I prefer the 'tool kit', and I especially like the idea of multiple forces with completely different objectives (so one campaign could have judges vs sov invasion with a normal gang stuck in between trying very hard not to get killed).

I don't think a force list mandate is needed, but some guidance in terms of 'sample forces' might be nice so someone who doesn't really know what would be appropriate - perhaps has little or no background knowledge on Judge Dredd - can pick up and use.

I like the narrative wargame where anything is possible, but I'm aware other people don't, and for campaigns at least, it's going to avoid arguments in the long run if there's at least a set of "tournament" force lists so that those who wish to be restrictive can be.

More importantly, at the moment, there needs some guidance for equipping the Judges - granted they don't 'buy' gear in the same way, but there needs to be some official yardstick for how good their gear is: A judge in HS/1 with a Lawrod is obviously better than a judge with just his standard gear.

I Think a force list is a great idea, also helps keep forces to a theme and balanced to an extent, maybe have the toolbox list as a supplement for those that like to play around with ideas, but for tourny play and club play a force list would be very beneficial, I like to play games but know very little about the judge dredd universe.

Lack of force lists has actually put us of taking the game up as well.

Although I'm by nature a tinkerer, and like to find my own way in to things, I reckon Force Lists would be useful for lots of people... and the more people playing, the better.

The Big Meg is such a crazy place, you never know what you'll run into around the next corner -- and I think the current toolkit is a great way to bring that home.

I think a 'Quick Play' intro download with pre-made characters, a scenario and a very simple breakdown of combat rules would be good for new players to try out, but I would be disappointed to see that format become the only option in the main game.
