[Playtest Update]

Just wanted to let everyone know how everything is getting on!

First off, thank you for all your comments thus far - they have been extremely useful. The Core Rulebook is just getting updated with your latest suggestions and it is looking very solid. I am looking forward to getting this book out into the wider world!

The changes being made now are getting increasingly smaller, which means we have nailed the larger issues. The Big Thing coming in the next update, likely next week, is the fixing of the 'Vehicle Damage' problem. It looks like we have got a system in place now that scales up perfectly across all combatants, from single Travellers to huge Dreadnoughts, and allows a seamless transition across that traditional problem area, aerospace fighters/high tech grav tanks and Small Craft.

We are doing the final tweaks now, and no doubt there will be all sorts of bits and pieces you chaos will spot, but we are confident the core mechanics are solid and we'll just be worrying about individual cases, such as weapon damage.

Once this is done, the Vehicle Handbook will be ready to be previewed/playtested, and we are expecting that to be in your playtest pack next week, along with a revision of the CSC.

Which just leaves High Guard!

This is actually a fair bit further along the development process compared to the Vehicle Handbook, but has just been waiting for one last component to fall into place before I can happily send it out. This, funnily enough, has been relying upon work on the Vehicle Handbook and now that is just about done, we can crack on with High Guard.

Assuming our noses are kept to the grindstone, this book may well appear in your playtest packs as well next week, giving you a fair ton of material to work through! It is also the last 'core' component of Traveller, so while there will be bits and pieces you will not have seen (such as the idea of 'Advanced' Careers that we are currently playing with), you will have in your hands all core components of the new edition.

All this means that we are currently on track to complete playtesting at the end of December and be in print around March next year!

Oh what a tease you are.

Looking forward to the next packet. Thanks again for allowing us to help. 8)

Will the PDF be out earlier than the print version or at the same time?

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to update you all on where we are with everything.

First up, there will be a new update later today for both the Core book and High Guard.

There are _very_ few changes to the Core, which is a good thing - it means you have all had a very powerful effect on the game and just about all issues have been caught, addressed and sorted! Playtest of the Core will continue until the end of December, so there is still time to get any last comments in.

High Guard, predictably, gained a lot of attention, and we have already made a lot of tweaks and changes (though nothing too fundamental - which means we got it more or less right to begin with!). We are adding the Ship's Computer chapter, which will give you an idea of where we are headed with more powerful software, but it looks like the Space Stations chapter will not be quite finished today. That will appear in the next update, before Christmas.

Also before Christmas, you will see what will probably be the final draft of CSC, which will include a brand new chapter on Robots, and the final(ish) draft of the Vehicle Handbook, adding drones and bio-tech vehicles to the mix.

So, if you have any comments on either of those books, get them in as soon as you can, and we will add your feedback to the update before it goes live!

All this means that we are on schedule! We are guessing the ebook version of the Core will go live end of Jan/somewhere in Feb, with the printed version appearing likely early April (printing schedules permitting). Subsequent books will appear each month after that, along with a completely revised and full colour Pirates of Drinax later in the year.

We have a few other surprises in store, but let's get these core books out of the way first so we can start another glorious decade of Traveller!

Any chance to get the un-revised and black & white chapter 10 of Pirates of Drinax sooner rather than later? We've been waiting for that a *long* time...

Obviously we did not post the update on Friday - there is just one little file that needs completing for a proper update (the print friendly Core), and then it will be up. The plus side is that it gives me more time to work on the other books, so the update will be more complete!

Drinax: As soon as we get a slot in the layout schedule, Part 10 will be done, but at the moment they are blocked solid with Traveller Core, High Guard, CSC and Paranoia.

Just to let you all know, the update is about to go live, you should see a mail from Drivethru in the next hour or so telling you it is ready.

This is likely the last update you will see for the Core Rulebook before it goes to print, so please keep your eyes peeled for any issues!

There will also be an update for High Guard included.

A question (mainly aimed at Matthew):

Would you prefer a central thread about things like typos, inconsistencies and (missing) clarifications (i.e. the small things which do not seem "broken" as such, just unclear/not consistent/mistyped), or should we post those in their chapter forums?

Just to let you all know, we have just updated the beta pack again with a new version of Central Supply Catalogue - Robots are now in Traveller!

That's the one - I know it is December now, but there will likely be another CSC file coming this month!

Just to let you all know, the Vehicle Handbook has been updated with what may well be the final set of files (dependent on your comments). The drone and bio-tech chapters have now been added.
