Planet of The Apes - Based on the Charlton Heston Version

First of all, I think it's great that the author of this thread goes by the handle "knuckles", very appropriate for a thread about "The Planet of the Apes".
I agree with the general sentiment of the posters on this thread that the Marky Mark version, although mildly amusing, is a joke compared to the Charelton Heston version. I remember staying up "late" with my parents to watch the television premier. I was a little too young to see it when it opened in theaters. There was also a TV series and action figures! Lots of video background material out there.
Planet of the Apes is a great setting for an RPG. In context of Mongoose, there's the question of whether to develop it as a stand alone game with its own game system, or to make it a supplement for an existing game system such as Traveller or MRQ. Personally I'd like to see it as an MRQ supplement since I like the MRQ game mechanics, but I can understand the argument for making part of the Traveller system because of it's science fiction theme.

Hey Sutek, have you converted your notes over to the new Traveller system?

Nope. Never enve occured to me. Not sure how the system works or what it's strengths are, because my only Traveler reccolections are from the old, little books.

Why do you think it would be suitable?

Either the MRQ or Traveller mechanics would work, but I think the Traveller rule set would be a better fit. The Heston era would be awesome! I've seen all the movies and read the original novel (a good read). I hope Mongoose gets the license someday.

General Urko for president!

Traveller Planet of the Apes could be interesting. I find it hard to believe that there has never realy been a serious attempt at a POTA RPG.

'Aftermath!' - which is still in print and producing new books - had a section on doing 'Planet of The Apes' in the main boxed rules.

It is a bit of an overview, but certainly usable.
