We have just posted on Planet Mongoose a comparison of the Federation Heavy Cruiser and Battlecruiser, along with photos of the brand new miniatures!

You can find it at http://blog.mongoosepublishing.co.uk/

Like the overall look, but not the colours. Far too bright for my taste. Are the names/registry numbers painted on or decals?

How about some Roms next please?

Its the federation. They are the bright and shiny team

Still I am liking the ships even if the flat tops are my third choice. Waiting for the "Eat plasma death while facing my sturdy but not very turnable fleet" Gorns

Interesting, thanks. I was curious to see how the rules were going to handle the Feddie's mixed Drone racks and the differences in shield regeneration ability between older and newer ship classes.

Sure, but the tri-d show always showed them more grey than white. Not that it matters that much to me, I'm going with Roms. And not neccessarily the tri-d show colours either. Much more likely to go with green or purple.

We have some 'greys' as well;

The registry numbers on these are decals, though my own personal fleet has hand-printed ones :)

Thanks for the previews. I really appreciate them. Can't wait to get the game! I have some Romulan 2400 models, but looks like I'll have to pick up some Federation 2500 - and then maybe the new romulans as well...

White background does give you flexibility when sticking in documents

Are the two ships to scale?

Looking forward to seeing the Klingons and Romulans as a few of those I want to buy

Curious why does the New Jersey still suffers from "shock". In SFB you could only fire 4 photons per 1/4 turn but you could still fire all 6 in the same turn. Seeing as the New Jerseys were built for base assaults it seems odd that it seems they would be less effective in that role than other Heavy Battlecruisers now.

The BCJ can only fire 4 photons a turn in FC, where the concept of shock from SFB does not exist.

(I forget if the Starmada version has the same limit or not.)

Whee! The Heavy Brigade came out to play! :D

Looking very darned nice indeed. The decals are the wrong choice of font, but in this scale, beggars are rarely qualified to be choosers. And the Battlecruiser is USS Australia, so how can I justly complain?

As for the colour - Richard Datin, the man who built the original 11' filming model of the original Enterprise describes it as: "a flat finish–a light grey color with a light tint of green".

Modeling fiend Paul Newitt suggests these as suitable colours for models of original series era vessels:

From Testor’s Model Master range:
• FS 17875, Insignia White, Testors# 1745
• FS 34159, Sac Bomber Green, Testors# 1793
• FS 36440, Flat Gull Grey, Testors# 1730

Mix as follows:
• 1 part green
• 6 parts grey
• 23-25 parts white

Tamiya Acrylic paint:
• XF-12, “J.N. Grey”, lightened about 10%

I'll most likely airbrush my Feds with the Tamiya colour, but if luck will have it, I'll experiment with Vallejo and Citadel colours, and report back the results if folk are interested?

A number of the SFB guys just use the Testors Flat Gull Grey as is, which looks pretty good.

I've been using Vallejo Silver Grey as a base colour, which is a not-quite-white, also doing some "wash and wipe" experiments with Army Painter Quickshades on a couple of spares which should give them a pale cream weathered look with fairly subtle panel lines once I work the kinks out (need to nail down how dry to let the wash get before wiping the surface off). The one on the right's almost there, although the picture makes it look browner than it actually is.

(Sorry for taking the thread further OT :))

Can we get a look at the Orions next?! Do they have engine doubling as they do in SFB/FC?

I'm also curious to know what the statlines for disruptors look like...
