Not My fault you idiots seem to think a piece of meat is a hamburger. Being called stupid by someone who doesn't know that is just... It is simply the whining of lesser minds. Try again princess.
There is no need to call fake ground beef a hamburger either, but others have done so. It is a patently false statement. To do so, is to not have a discussion in good faith. If others do not have good faith, why should I? I started off in good faith asking a very simple question and then stating that, based on the response, I would likely not be buying this product. I also posted asking about Traveller being a ruleset and not a setting, as others on here have stated exhaustively. More and more it seems like this is no longer true and that Traveller is basically becoming Charted Space the RPG. I simply want to know if that is the case. There is no right or wrong answer to this from Mongoose as it is their baby to do with as they please. For me, the answer will simply inform my purchasing decisions in regard to Traveller products in the future as My expectations for those products will change based on Mongoose's plan for Traveller and Charted Space (Chartered Space...lmao! I am still laughing about this.Play nice, there is no need to go attacking others.
Different themes are fine and I like having more themes to play with. I can build My own Traveller universe, but I can't use Pioneer or 2300AD, because they don't use the same ruleset. I like Traveller because it is a ruleset. If most of what Mongoose decides to produce, can't be used by that ruleset, then why buy it? I already have too many games systems that don't work together that I have collected over the decades. (Had. Can't say have, that would be a lie. I got rid of all of my hardcopies when I left the US for the Caribbean. Too humid for paper here without air con.)Not many Traveller authors exist and those who do have my utmost respect. Each author has particular interest in a subset or "variant" of Traveller so it is natural we see different themes emerging.
and silence creates complicity. What's your point?Personally I applaud the diversity of content being published despite having zero interest in some - and I'll continue to purchase all content because I collect Traveller "stuff" and want to support Mongoose.
I would prefer Mongoose concentrate on what I consider mainstream content, but not every author has the same perspective. The alternative is to either wait and cherry-pick books which pique my interest, or write something that I would like to see published. I have always thought that if there is a problem, I'll have a go at fixing it, complaining creates division, is antagonistic and IMHO less likely to receive attention.
Gee! It's almost like having an entire sci-fi ruleset and then only having one setting that uses it. Why waste time coming up with new rulesets when you have one that works and is popular?A publisher without content to publish will quickly go out of business. If the only content is near/adjacent then that will do, it "feeds my goat" whilst supporting Traveller
Gatekeep much? I can build an entire office building from drawings all the way to finishing, but if My life depended on it, I could not write a description of the building that I just built that anyone would like to read. I have tried to improve, but I suck as a writer. I am however very good at finding and correcting issues. So, that is what I do here. Most of the arguing is over the definitions of terms. It is hard to hold any position when I still don't know what TL means or what the UWPs mean. If we can't even agree on the meanings of the terms being used, no meaningful conversation can ever be had.I'm not after an argument though it seems MasterGwydion is looking for one everywhere
If you are looking for a point, it is this: Put up or shut up. Stop complaining and start publishing stuff that everyone can enjoy, then maybe you will influence content creators to join your efforts with everyone benefitting.
Some views have merit, some don't. Treating them as all having equal merit is not only counterproductive, but also destructive. As you have just read, I am not silently complicit, I have stated my preference in this thread and elsewhere. I have the grace to accept other people's view as having equal merit - there's a lesson here for you.
Are they not? Mongoose says that Traveller is a ruleset, but Charted Space is the only Traveller setting.No-one is forcing you to adopt Chartered Space.
Continual Improvement is good. I have been arguing for that for quite some time. I have been given a lot of excuses for why that doesn't happen on many different topics. Go back and see what I was told about UWP. I quote the book and get told I am wrong. I get told that a UWP of 3 could be millions of people, but the rules say differently. Which is true? In order to have a continuing discussion, we first must agree on what the terms mean. Most of the time on here, even something that simple can't be accomplished. I have been told multiple times, "It's fuzzy". No, it is a range. It is not "fuzzy" A Pop Code of 3 is from 1,000 people to 9,999 people. It cannot be outside of that range and still be considered Pop 3. Yet writers and people on here insist that it can and that is not violating the rules.Rules evolve, there are examples on this forum of suggested rule changes with many positive contributions and recognition of some rules need aligning. What's not to like with continual improvement?
Thankyou for this. I have played and ran Traveller since it was the first RPG I purchased back in 1982. I use Chartered Space pretty much for the names and the base skeleton of the setting, after that everything is pretty much under the guise of "in my Traveller universe...". I will use Pioneer not for the game itself necessarily but for the ideas, concepts, story arcs that it will no doubt bring.No-one is forcing you to adopt Chartered Space.

My point is, you're constantly being aggressive and hostile in this forum. It derails the actual discussion - and it's very tiresome to wade through.and I get real tired of people who can't read. What's your point?
I would say the lack of agreement on simple definitions derails the conversation. My point is, you're constantly being aggressive and hostile in this forum. It derails the actual discussion - and it's very tiresome to wade through.
Calling people "lesser minds" and "idiots" isn't really having a conversation about definitions - it's just being hostile.I would say the lack of agreement on simple definitions derails the conversation.
If I hand you a cooked beef pattie, is that a hamburger? I would say no. The dictionary seems to say no as well, but people on here say yes.
So, how do you have a conversation where the people responding to you can't even use the actual definitions of terms?
For example, if you and I cannot agree on the definitions of "aggressive" and/or "hostile", how can we ever agree on if a post or series of posts was "aggressive" and/or "hostile"
People on here can't even agree that Traveller is a ruleset and not a setting, eventhough @MongooseMatt has come one here and clearly stated that it is a ruleset. Eventhough the fact has been printed in these forums, people continue to insist differently. I don't care how they do it in their TU. Rule Zero, they can do what they want, but in a rules or setting discussion, a common frame of reference is required.
