Get ready for launch!

Set 10-30 years from today's world, Pioneer provides players with a grounded framework to explore the worlds of the inner solar system.

You will be the first to walk on the surface of Mars, the first to build a Moon base, or the first to mine an asteroid. Between these great missions, you can conduct rescues in Low Earth Orbit, repair important satellites, and conduct scientific experiments that will boost our understanding of the universe.

If you are an avid fan of media like Gravity, The Martian, or For All Mankind, this is the RPG for you!

Pioneer is 'Traveller-adjacent' but is a brand-new Core Rulebook in its own right. Existing Traveller players will find much they recognise as they choose careers and create their characters, make skill checks and deal with hazards of radiation, zero-gravity and the cold vacuum of space. However, Pioneer focusses on the business of long-duration space travel, dealing with disaster while days, weeks or months away from Earth, and exploring environments that are inherently hostile to humans.

Wait until we start telling you how much stuff can be used in a TL7 to TL9 Traveller planetary system...

you will weaken...

I'm also making a bit of an assumption that Pioneer level tech will be useful for the first Dark Conspiracy book...
Maybe. We’ll see, I suppose. I will pay attention to the Kickstarter and may decide to back it if I feel it will be useable in Traveller.

Will it be Traveller comparable, @MongooseMatt?

I am very skeptical of that statement. Right now, Mongoose can't even make Traveller compatible with Traveller, so making Pioneer compatible with Traveller would almost require a divine intervention.

Complete compatibility? No - there is a reason this is a separate rulebook, not a supplement. However, given the common fundamentals of the rules, there will be things that are transferable. If you want to take the rules for Radiation from Pioneer and place them in Traveller for example, that will be easy.

Cool, where do I send the cash ? :D

Transferrable is very different than designed to work together and Traveller has enough problems with writers of Traveller not being able to follow the rules. So now We get a book that isn't Traveller, but might be compatible and likely still doesn't follow the rules? Does that about sum it up? So, I guess it will not be a wealth of TL7-9 technologies that can be used in Traveller. Now I have even less reason to buy it.

Another question I have. What is the point of Traveller being a ruleset and not a setting if every setting that you put out that is not Charted Space is also not Traveller? 2300 isn't Traveller. Pioneer isn't Traveller. They all use slightly different rules. So, is it time to stop calling Traveller a ruleset/toolbox and just call it Charted Space the RPG?

Perhaps because the "brand" is Traveller. I think Mongoose are just releasing adjacent settings using a similar and almost compatible rules set.

That is like McDonald's calling its burger meat "100% Pure Beef", Pure Beef being a brand name and not actually 100% meat.

Edit - and if that is the route Mongoose wishes to take, so be it. It will definitely make Me not buy those products since I can't use them with the products I do have and they all are supposedly Traveller.

Not really, and im not sure why you are angry about the post above. Let me try and maybe use your analogy. McDonalds is the brand so they will always say McDonalds. The 100% Pure Beef is still a burger but then again so is the chicken burger BUT they are both McDonalds burgers.

Traveller is still the brand but Mongoose and indeed GDW etc have differing versions = they are all still Traveller. They are different flavours but still Traveller

Hope that makes sense

Not where I come from. They call "chicken burgers" chicken sandwiches. Also, 100% Pure Beef isn't a burger it is a brand name of meat product that goes into a burger. I should not have to explain these distinctions to an adult, assuming that you are actually an adult.

It doesn't. You managed to miss the point entirely. Congrats.

Mongoose is the brand. Traveller is a product that Mongoose sells. Just like with car tires. Firestone is the brand. The Transforce AT2 is a tire that they make and sell. If you don't understand simple concepts such as this, then I doubt anyone here can explain it to you.
