Pictures of Forth, SST Prepaints, Tanks

Kudos on the language work, thoughI believe the first spot this idea was used was in dinotopia, though that was whole foot used each time. not just used too sctratch. Anyway thank Taco... mmmm... Tacoes :)

The blue one does look sub-par, but it could indeed just be the photo quality...yes, the red and white is definitely an improvement, though I would have tried something a bit less stark if it were up to me.

BTW, the Forth aren't a race of machines, they're humanoid organics - albeit about two feet tall, hence the rather pressing need for big toys *grin*

Might just be the pictures but I am not impressed at all. I hope that the Forth are a wind up as they are defiantly poor from what was shown, neither colour scheme works and they are horrible colours to paint over.

The closer views of there battle field Evolution stuff shown else where look better but the figures are very wooden characterless and toy soldier like

Ye God's the thread necromancers are at it again :D
I agree about the Evo figures, from what I can tell they're still using the bloke who did the skinny slaves... If your only gonna have a couple of heads per squad for gods sake make sure they're good ones!
Other than the faces they seem ok though (appart from being impossible to convert without carving away most of the chest...)

SST wise (a couple of months on) its kinda sad how Mongoose dropped all the support for the game (look at scenario of the week!).
Not that I mind using a dead format (Hell I had Betamax for years and years, and I've only just got an MP3) but this forums gone from one incredibly active and fast moving to glacial in record time..
The signs and Portents stuffs nice (thought the rebel army list was pretty good), but I was lead to believe that there was a mass of new material they were going to put in the end of year suppliment.. I was hoping for a peek at the Forth back ground at the very least, or the trial rules available for download, maybe some concept art or something... In a perfect world maybe the army lists available for download, although I suppose someone might concievably still buy them.

Brrr, thats all a little negative, the games still great, and I've got my own little project to work on I suppose :D
How long was it till the relaunch? I can't remember for the life of me!

i was actualy impressed by the shading on the prepaints, there 2 stage shading, but done welle nough to be good.

the forth look a nighmare to paint so them comming prepainted is going to be a good thing :D

or the trial rules available for download,

It's coming if memory serves well...But why put everything to 1 s&p? Leaves rest of s&p devoid of SST stuff and leaves players of other games pissed off when 1 magazine is entirely devoted to SST

I don't think they were going to put it in an S&P; the rules preview was gonna be a download all it's own, I reckon.

I'm more or less with Quark - Awesome game, don't regret picking it up, but valiant as the shoring-up the Mongoose has been doing of late (Light Armour, Soldier and Guard Specials, Exosuit Officers; The Rebel Colonist army list, even!) it's still going to be an uncomfortable wait.

*pout* I was looking forward to having an Engineer army list to play with too. Okay, that's not true - that would have been cool, but I haven't given up on my dreams of Skinnie Spiders. Now THAT would be worth waiting for, a little Skinny Armour at last!

Ah well. As yet another poster said, we can have it soon, or we can have it gooder.

Aw, that's a shame - since reading about the Engineer suit in the Mobile Infantry Manual (RPG, of course), I'd tried to imagine how that might work. The main problem, of course, would be sufficiently differentiating them from regular Power Suit Platoons to give the exercise a point, whilst not simply making them better but the same.

If it were up to me, your standard Engineer/Trooper would have a D6+1 CC to reflect the increased strength of his suit, and perhaps bump the either Kill score or the Armour save up a notch. Nothing TOO earthshaking, like I said, but enough to matter.

As to their actual engineering ability, giving the Officers the Engineer (or Demolitions?) training for "free" and allowing squads a similar collective ability (just one trooper would manage little on his own, but a whole squad could do more than a single hero and faster?) and the ability to purchase specialized Emplacement assets (also usable by allied platoons, natch) - Trenchs? Bug/tank traps? Exploding boobytraps? Rigged terrain features? Pontoons and handholds for steep cliffs?

In terms of options and support, you could probably get rid of some (M9's and Hawkeyes; Sprites...? ) in return for the use of Thermo Charges like the Pathfinders have - or even bigger placed boomsticks like the famous TOADs?

As to the cadet platoons, I was a little disappointed to see those wind up as an adjunct to the Light Infantry when I had surmised them as an option for the Power Suits, similar to the Workers & Warriors option - Condensed Training, limited weapon and equipment options and such in return for a downgrade in price.

Of course, in practice, there's only so far SICON would be willing to compromise training and the whole point of being a CAP Trooper is the high level of training that is expected. Somehow I doubt the Mobile Infantry would stand for half-behinded cadets tromping about in expensive power suits or waving Javelins hither and yon. No, Mongoose probably went with the correct option there.

*ahem* Sorry, I seem to have wandered off point. What were we saying?

In addition to the TOAD, what is a Skinnie Spider? It sounds intriguing, but it is not something that I have ever seen mentioned anywhere.

As for the Engineer unit, it would be easy enough to make some house rules to cover them. I am not familiar with the suit in question, Proteus, but it seems like you have a good grasp of what they would be capable of. You also seem quite to be an eloquent speaker (or at least typer) so maybe you should try putting it together yourself and submitting it to Signs and Portents?

*ahehehe* Technically, a Timer Operated Atomic Detonator (TOAD) isn't really a boomstick, so that may be my fault for miscommunicating.

The "Spider" was something mentioned in the wicked awesome, but sadly no longer available to download, Skinny Concept Art that was found amongst the extras once upon a time. Basically, it appears to be a quadrepedal tank/fire support platform that carries a pair of heavy weapons. (I imagine it being crewed by Soldiers or Guard, and being a useful anti-tank unit more widely available than, say, a Venerable Marauder)

Anyway, sadly I haven't yet heard of such a thing being confirmed or even mentioned by the Mongoose people in general, but a guy can dream. But an S&P submissions? Me? Could be...could be...

Sounds a tad bit more like a boombox actually.

As for the Spider...I must have seen it at some point, but I am still drawing a blank. As far as I know, the only vehicle on the books for the Skinnies is some kind of flyer; don't know any details unfortunately.
