Phoenixcon 2008

Just wondering, anyone going to Phoenixcon in Phoenix AZ (Mesa actually) in June?
I had a great time last year and am looking forward to playing B-5 again this year. I even picked up a few ships!

I was thinking about getting a few more ships. What is the best scout for the League? Do I need a carrier? Can fighters be taken without one?

Not going to be at the Con this year, maybe next. Though I think your assessment is accurate, no minis means dead game. [opinion]Not sure what the fascination with minis is. I like painting and building etc, but come the weekend, I really want to play a game, minis or no. For me, minis are like graphics in a video game, while pleasing to the eye, fun game play is more important.[/opinion]

Where do you live? I play out in Glendale, but live in Chandler, so I am looking for closer players. I game most often at Game Depot.

Not too familiar with the league fleet as a whole, but I was looking at a vree-centric fleet using their scouts. The new Gaim fleet list is coming in the next S&P, so their scout will need a second look.

Carriers are nice in that they usually carry a good number of ships as well as being another hull on the board. You don't NEED one as you can take fighters at their listed priority level. If you look at the fighter entries in the fleet book, you'll see they are usually listed at Patrol Level with some number of flights per patrol point spent. However, you give up a VP for each of these flights that you lose, whereas fighters launched from ships do not give up victory points.

I live in Florence and work in Chandler. I'll be at the Game Depot today between 4:30 and 5 to pick up my 'Harry the Hammer' figure.

My fleet (or should I say random collection of ships) consists of a Brakiri Tashkat, an Abbai Lakara, a Vree Xill, and 2 EA Tethys and 4 Centauri Haven that were purchased from Earth and Centauri as surplus.
Actually, those last ones I actually bought to use with Battle Fleet Gothic as system monitors(I refeused to pay forgeworld prices for those ships!)

All fleets need scouts and I didn't know how a role big fighters played in B-5.
My tenative list to get for the convention is a Vree Xorr, a Brakiri Ikorta, a Vree Vaarl(scout) and Abbai Tiraca

Great! I was waiting to see if anyone here was going before picking which session to attend. Looks like Friday at 1400 it is!

I'm looking forward to seeing more EA mobile targets,,,,oppps,,I mean fleet units in action against my League ships.

Hey, I am the local GM for Babylon 5 in North Phoenix. You seem to be pretty far away, but if you're interested, we have a gathering every Saturday, and a campaign every first Sat of the month.

I will also be attending Phoenix Con, but I will actually be an event organizer for Warmachine.

If you're interested, we have 7 players across the ISA, EA, Drakh, Psi Corps, Narn, Centauri, Vorlons, and Shadows. We would love for you to join, even if it's on the campaign day.

Ya getting my stuff stolen last year was not fun!!

I'de love to come up for games but I don't know if it can be arranged. I work until 3:30 on Saturdays in Chandler. Usually I go gaming with my son over in Gilbert.
Also, with gas the price it is, going North has to be carefully considered.
Where do you game? Imperial Outpost?
I might be able to make it up every now and then.

If all goes well, I may be able to get up there this Saturday.
Is the small fleet I have enough to game with?

If it comes to it I dont think we would have a problem loaning ships for a game, Between DA and Myself weve got ALOT of extra ships floating around

Are you gaming at the place in down town Gilbert? (The name escapes me.)

Not necessarily. Certainly, every fleet benefits from scouts.

In general, Vree have pretty good anti-fighter ratings, so keeping fighters off Vree ships should not be too big a concern, unless the fighters out range your anti-fighter. Not too familiar with the Brakiri fleet though.

The place in downtown Gilbert (Waterloo) no longer exists. We go over to Gamers Adventure (next to the Gilbert stadium movie theatre).

You likely did see me Darklord, I was the one who observed for a few minutes and then asked if stepping off a cliff could still be called 'death from above'. The answer was yes, but you have to make a 'do you have the balls to' test.

For some reason I thought scouts were very important in B-5. I guess less than I thought. Your opinion please. which would be better to have? A Vree Vaarl scout, a flight of Tzymm fighters, or a pair of Xaar patrol boats?

Yup, I remember.
I was the one doing the DFA at the time, much to the disliking of my target as well as my commander that was responsible for making sure the mechs are in working order for the next campaign game :P

Depends on your playing style and preferences. I like firepower, and when in doubt, add more firepower, so I would take the Xaars. TZymms give a fair amount of firepower, but are more susceptible to enemy fighters.

That does help. The scout is out and the patrol craft are in. The more firepower comment makes me wonder if I should drop the Xorr for a Xill.
I want to be sure I have enough ship selections for each level. So far, everything below battle technically can't be used with a League list (I don't think people would mind too much though). That's why I was getting all smaller ships. However, having a pair of Xill's does give me a warm fuzzy. It was a two of those that I used last year that wrecked havoc on the EA.
