PC Robot Rules

I'm sure there has got to be rules for making your own robot as a PC. Is there any beyond what is there on page 94 (doesn't really say that you can play one, though)?

Classic Traveller had Book 8: Robots. Mongoose Publishing has made mention of one but nothing about when.

The idea of artificial humanoid persons has cropped up in a Mongoose supplement, namely Alien Module 1: Aslan.

The Florian people in the Trojan Reach are, in fact, humanoid machines created by Ancient machinery on one of the Ancient worlds that survived the war (there are three, at least, in this sector). Florians have a huge weakness: the Ancients designed them to be unable to think creatively. They are, in fact, completely bereft of imagination or humour. Just like the robots they are, as a matter of fact.

However, while technically you can portray a humanoid machine if you choose to play a mutated Florian wanderer crafted with the ability to think imaginatively and therefore outcast from his own people, actual rules for playing one of the more traditional tin box on wheels kind of robot have not yet been published.

Why anyone would want to play a sentient Roomba is still beyond me though. Even if their soul comprised lines of Python code. :)

Once I get my pre-ordered copy of Supplement 5: Civilian Vehicles, I can resume work on Flynn's Guide to Robots. When I publish that, I will be including rules for playing a robotic PC. It's not available now, of course, but it will eventually be an option for you.

Hope This Helps,
Flynn

Commander Data. Its also a great excuse for super human strength and abilities.

Actually, for some players, 'roleplaying' a robot would a good match for their abilities.

In a straight 3I setting humanoid AI can be an issue - which can be fun, of course.

Actually, I was thinking something a bit more complex than a standard humanoid robot, which might require specific rules for that sort of thing. Robots that move with anti-gravity devices, for instance, or with multiple arms or appendages. Maybe make a droid like R2-D2, or V.I.N.CENT from Disney's The Black Hole (as corny as it may sound, I see potential in a droid like that). Heck, I think it would be awesome if, instead of being something menial like the auto-doc or some other drone, you get to be the Ship!

You can get to be the ship if you are an integrated psion, covered in Book 4: Psion.

Supplement 4: Central Supply Catalogue has details on a full body transplant which is actually the copying of a consciousness into an artificial body.

What is the difference from a psion integration and the copying of an artificial consciousness onto an artificial body? I gather that one would basically transfer a brain or copy the brain onto the machine. Is either allowable for a PC to start out like that?

Psion integration doesn't copy a consciousness it uses the whole body in a special chamber (Psion Integration Chamber). It's allowable though recommended against due to the more limiting nature of the PC, a little hard to take a whole ship in to say broker a deal.

Are you seeking to have robot PCs in the OTU or in a setting of your own design? Because the former will restrict having playable robots quite heavily.
