Passage and Freight Costs table (CRB)

Hi,

At the top of page 207 of the Core Rule Book, there is the "Passage and Freight Costs" table.

It lists Freight - for example, to transport Freight one Parsec costs Cr1000 but it does not say anything about the weight (tons) or volume of freight (dtons?) being transported. Could someone clarify this for me?

Thanks :)

By default spaceship tonnes are defined as volume.

It's when the rules start mentioning mass, calculations become complex.

A ton can be almost anything, but a tonne is always a metric ton: a mass of 1000 kg.

Spaceships are measured in tons of displacement, 1 ton ≈ 14 m³.

Traveller displacement is supposed to be the mass of liquid hydrogen that would be displaced if the ship was fully submerged in it. i.e it's the mass of a ship-sized pool of liquid hydrogen. (Or we could say 1 displacement ton is the volume of 1 metric ton of liquid hydrogen).

As anotherdilbert has stated, it works to about 14 m^3 of ship per displacement ton, and does not directly represent the ship's actual weight.
