Paranoia Newbie Questions

Hi all,

I'm a fan of 2nd edition Paranoia way back and have been looking to get into the new edition. I really like 2nd edition, so I was wondering if you guys could sell me a little about what makes the current edition the most perfect edition ever.

In addition, I have a specific question. I looked at the character sheet and notice that there was no Strength or Endurance attribute listed. How do you handle checks based on these attributes? Seems like a weird omission.

Thanks!

Welcome, citizen! Many others in the PARANOIA forum have asked this. I recommend you check out these topics here:

All physical tasks are handled under the Violence attribute. Most routine physical abilities can be checked under the Fitness specialty of Violence.

The new PARANOIA attributes try to differentiate characters in ways important to the setting. In many years listening to players recount their favorite PARANOIA moments, I never once heard anyone say anything like, "Yeah, that was a great character because he was really (strong/tough/dextrous)." Their stories always revolved around funny incidents of coping with the setting or betraying one another. The new system is oriented around fostering such incidents, not around the minutiae of simulating one guy's ability to jump higher than another.

Thanks for the helpful links. Peversity points sound awesome.

Your point about attributes makes sense. I was just curious.

Citizen,

The computer tells you that you should upgrade to the latest version of paranoia. The computer is always right. Questioning the computer is treason. Not being on the latest version is treason.

Are you on the latest version?

As I have often said elsewhere on this forum, it does PARANOIA no favors to respond to reasonable questions with standard Alpha Complex info-denialspeak. If someone has a reasonable question, please answer it as best you can.

Fair enough. Sorry, i'm new to the forums myself. I loved the game 20 years ago, but didn't know it had been reborn. I am only now rediscovering the glory of the computers LED's.
