Ah so theyre finally going to the FA Olympus eh? Of course certain cunning EA players like myself already used the FA Olympus which is remotely to scale. Not that I'm saying I told you so or anything....
well, um, the game is officially only one scale, so shouldn't be too confusing, unless people start seein Fleet action stuff for sale on e-bay
ok, changing the official model size is a bit of a pain, but the Game does not penalise you for using different size models, or tokens.
Collectors will find the changes disheartening as it would be nice for them to be able to collect an attractive single fleet. Collector types will want the current official model.
As to the game not penalizing you for using different scale models that's bunk. As long as bases cannot overlap there is a big penalty using the bases that mongoose provides for most ships vs the FA scale bases. Just played a game where a FA scale hyperion squadron was able to use all their secondaries where my full scale ships could only get on ship in range due to the bases. If your really playing against a opponent of equal skill and appropriate race the base size will matter.
Not saying I don't applaud Mongoose for trying to make everyones fleets from the older game legal (plus the counters...love the counters) but it does produce an in game edge for smaller bases and is inappropriate in a competitive environment. I liked Preludes idea of clear acetate 'tourney' bases that anyone can stick their model on top of for competitive play. But that is just me...not exactly the life of the party usually.
