Painting Italian Ships

I am new to naval gaming and have just bought a 1/3000 Italian fleet (to go with my Italian Fucilieri and Carri company).

Can anyone give me a step by step guide to how to paint them, colours etc?

I have also bought some of the Vallejo clear basing stuff that was recommended on this forum.

How is that used and painted?

I have only painted two Italian ships. What I do is visit that site and copy a master modellers effort. That site has a model of almost any ship you can think of.
