P+P in Previews for pre-order

Da Boss

Mongoose
Well its advertised in this months "Previews" for October (with 90 days possible delay) - so I guess Christmas is the likely date ?

its advertised as SC, B+W, 64 pages and $19.95 - prob £10-12 ?

the cover is a bit indistinct I am afraid...........

That can't be right, $19.95 for a 64 page B&W softcover? That's half the size of most magazines. I'll have to pass on it at that price.

Ditto, thats silly money. Half the stuff is straight from S&P anyway (Gaim fleet, Deep Space tournament, Raiders campaign...)

Why not release it in a box set along with updated Fleet Counters for that price and then it be value for money.

I think Mongoose remain in black and white printing mode only. Plus if 19.95 is the price then addiing counters has to up that price plus I for one don't want any more counters.

I don't have a problem with it being B&W. I have a problem paying $20 for 64 pages of B&W, when I can buy full color magazines with twice the page count for less than half the price. $12 or $13 is about what I'd be willing to pay for a book that size.

I'd compare P&P to the monthly Paizo Pathfinder adventure series, 96 page, perfect bound, full color on high quality paper, and softcover for $19.99 (about $14 if you subscribe).

It just doesn't mesh.

You miss my meaning Delthos, the counters that Clanger suggested would also be black and white.

There are really two questions on a $19.95, 64 page book.

Firstly is a 64 page soft back book worth $19.95

Secondly is a 64 page soft back book incorporating a fair ammount of content that has been prviously released (As Burger has already noted) worth $19.95

To me the second point is far more important than the first.

However since the price is the price and if I want to play up to date CTA, as I do, then I guess I will be paying my £10. At the end of the day the choice is simple buy or not buy. If you don't think its worth it vote with your wallet.

I already said in my first post that I'll be passing on it "voting with my wallet", but why can't I also vocalize it? Voting with your wallet just tells Mongoose that people aren't interested in the game, but not necessarily why. I'm interested in the game supplement, just not interested in purchasing it when it's over priced.

Delthos - I welcome your vocalisation beceause if there is any chance of influenciing the price of P&P now is certainly the time to raise the point, before the book is finalised.

How long after the hard copy publication does a PDF version appear. Never gone PDF for CTA before but sounds like the only sensible route in this case.

By that rationale, we shouldn't print any material of this nature in S&P. . .

um, on what basis? all the folk are saying is they don't want to pay money for already released stuff?

if it was all new funky content, people wouldn't be as concerned at the price. As it is we get half a book of funky content, and half a book of existing stuff, which really makes it "filler" because you either don't have the time, or the inclination to do enough new matereal for the release.

And by that same rationale, you also shouldn't be releasing any playtest material as you have done because the theory is that what is in the last iteration of the playtest files is likely to be the final product.

Personally, I'm happy to buy a compendium book even if much of the material is available elsewhere, and I'm very happy to see and try out the P&P playtest material before it goes to final print.

Dave

I saw from Ripple the new book materials; he got a replacement copy of the Fleet List from the 'goose at GenCon.

Blank-and-white? Sure, and it wasn't the easiest to read.

It wasn't going to fall apart, and it's a clean-looking product; if we've been waiting for the improvements to ACtA, I think this is an important buy. I'm betting there might be a few things left in the last iteration anyways that we won't see.

Open things that we might have to wait until the last minute to know the results of:

1). Did the Fusion Missile stay, or did the Offensive Interceptor idea get leveraged? Both?
2). What about the Centauri --- Hunting Packs or Da Boss's cool Overdrive Come About?
3). Final stat line on the Hunter seems to still be in flux.
4). What are the pak'ma'ra getting?

Book seems mandatory.

That material was always intended for P&P - we put it in the magazine to preview the book and to elicit comments.

Also worth remembering that no one has, as yet, paid for that material. . .

Indeed :)
