Our gaming groups observations (Long)

If you only outsinked him by a few ships then it shouldn't be a problem with the new/old FAP in P&P. A battle worth of blue stars doesn't go that far with new battle points. I blame all those shifty drazi complaining about being punished for taking small ships grrrrr.

Does your friend realise that its a good idea to take a healthy smattering of smaller ships. From the sounds of it he took a pretty top heavy fleet and you didn't. If he (and you) wanted to play like the show shouldn't you have avoided the smaller stuff and stuck mainly with whitestars. I thought you liked playing like the show and yet now you seem to be taking fleets not consistent with the show. If you want to play like the show then play like the show, if you don't then don't complain that you lost because you didn't bring any support ships to back up your big ones. What you don't seem to realise is that you're supposed to bring smaller ships to battles. Its not a fault with the game, it is a good feature of the game. A few big, some medium and several small. If the game was designed to just do battles from the show, there would hardly be any skirmish and patrol ships at all. The game includes a wide variety of ships never seen in the show to give more tactical options. The game doesn't just represent the show, but all the stuff behind the show that they didn't have the budget to do CGI of hundreds of different ships. The show had less than 20% of the ships in the game, there was more going on in the B5 universe than was in the show. We only ever say Drazi sunhawks, Warbird and heavy fighter, only 2 ships for vree, even EA, the most seen fleet had half a dozen ship types.

I like that EA is boresight. I like having to work with that weakness. If I didn't like working with weaknessess I'd be the first one on here not just saying why don't we have a special action negating boresight, I'd be advocating EA all Turreted beams. That would be really cool, and stop those pesky whitestars sneaking up behind us or on our flanks. The whole point of EA boresights is that they are good and damaging in certain circumstances if you can get a shot on the target you want. But EA tech is behind Minbari and Centauri and so their beams are not quite as flexible. If you want show evidence, and I can see why. I like the show too and want battles like it but I'm not a slave to the show and don't mind some divergence. In the show when sheridan painted his whitestar distinctively every enemy omega didn't fire at it all the time, they took the targets they could get. When he travelled right in front of that omegas guns to see if it was hostile or friendly, he went right in front of it, not somewhere near the front. I like the boresight for how it works in the game and the feel of it. If you want the show, then you should like it because in the show they usually fired boresight. Especially when they focused in on the ship, the only times its not is usually when its in the background and not the focus of attention. Remember the main concern of the CGI team in the show is to make battles look good, they don't have detailed descriptions of their capabilites. Most of the time omegas clearly have very limited firing arcs, not like the minbari who are often seen firing at 45 degree angles, omegas do have to turn a lot more to fire the lasers on their targets. The few times they are not I think are "mistakes" by the CGI team as its generally rare. Remeber the first time we saw a Primus fire, it didn't seem to have lasers at all, firing the pulse cannon type shots at the narn G'Quan. In later episodes it uses the lasers as the main weapon but in the first it didn't. Sometimes CGI teams don't have accuracy of ship capabilities at the top of their agenda, but rather how cool it looks on screen.

Don't take away boresights, they give a nice feel to EA. The initiative sink "problem" should be solved by the new/old FAP.

I like the idea of bore sight too... I just don't like it's interaction with initiative.

The new FAP doesn't solve anything in this regard, as it is very similar to what was true under Arm. and you can still buy down a PL at a time. So four ship per Battle point... two acting as sinks and two as hitters, means you have virtually the same firepower as the battle ship, but have two sinks to counter its moves.

(That's a bit general, but right now a ship is equal to about a ship one pl lower plus a ship two pls lower. In damage/crew and weapons anyway.)

Freaking Drazi... cant the Drakh put an end to that race once and for all! No more drazi, no more FAP argument, no more FAP arguments the Drakh are sitting pretty with all the raiders swarms

I've been begging since day one to get more Drazi ships at higher PL's and less bore sight so we could avoid these discussions. Widen out those twl guns to F and half the issues with bore go away as no race is completely screwed anymore.

Still a lot of 'builds' that are screwed but no complete race.

Still a lot of 'late game' issues with ships that can't target anymore due to ending up down a ship... but...
