Other races for MRQII?

My group is getting ready to start a campaign for this game this weekend but a couple of players were put off that the book seems to be concerned with humans only. The GM wants to hold the game in Glorantha. What book do I need that would give us the other races players could play as? Races such as elves, dwarves, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Anything in the Monsters section of the corebook, or the Monster Coliseum could conceivably be used as a player race, with GM’s permission of course, and with a rollable intelligence. The stats for the beasties are the same format as the humans.

I assume that Races of Glorantha One would be a good start. (I don’t have that book so I cannot vouch for it).

I just picked up Wraith Recon, which has a truly glorious section on the various races of that setting: Human, Dwarf, Elf, Hobgoblin, Lizardman, Scorpionman, Sharkfolk.

Vikings gives stats for humans from different regions: Viking, Saxon, Byzantine, Sami, etc.

Monster coliseum has stats for all races, traditional and Gloranthan. I would say that if you are planning on running a campaign this book is a must because it has all of the meanies as well as the stats for other races.

I understand that Wraith Recon has some similar stats that are good for those coming from a D&D background.

As far as cultural stuff- the Glorantha races book is good, but I would actually suggest tailoring it to your players desires as to what he wants to play. Just use the basic outlines for professions given in the core book.

Just my opinion. :)

As others have said, the basic rulebook gives stats for the standard races in the bestiary. Simply pick an appropriate cultural background and profession and you're good to go.

Races of Glorantha Vol 1 gives chapter and verse on ducks, dragonewts and Trolls as PCs.

Monster Coliseum gives a greatly expanded list of creatures that can be used with notes on cultural background and profession where relevant.

One thing about RQ. Any sapient creature can be used as a PC. Just roll its stats and pick a cultural background and profession. However: RQ is not a fair and balanced system. Some races are strictly better than others. The drawback is that the most common species in Glorantha is human so being a non-human will cause problems.

On pg 25 of Monster Coliseum it tells you how to make green elves. Do you simply follow those NPC creation instructions to also create PCs? If I were to follow all the guidelines on this page would it be sufficient for creating a plaey character? I don't see anything about background or anything.

One more thing...it says the green elves can choose from a list of certain professions. I assume I can choose one of those professions and get the bonuses for that profession then, correct?

I think Troll PCs should be allowed in most barbarian areas. Not necessarily well accepted by the populace, but definitely considered as OK partners by human PCs.

Depends on the barbarians - Sun worshippers are not going to get on particualrly well with Uz, for example, and Humakti are unlikey to get on with Zorak Zorani. Those under the protection of the Only Old One are likely to be more symapthetic though.
