Online Tournament - Vassal III

Ok, but it looks like my first game which was supposed to be today never happened... I'll contact my opponent :?

My apologies to Catbarf for missing the game time today. My ISP went down this morning and has only just returned. Its usually very reliable.
:(

sorry to be the rules Nazi again but while looking through all the lists to size up my opponents I noticed that Angelus2000 list is also not a legal split Im afraid (As near as I can tell you've split to 2 War, split one of those to 3 raid but have then split TWO of those raid points down for 4 skirmish, you can only split one Im afraid)

Alexbs linked copied list of legal splits that burger put up a above is correct. If in doubt look at that under the armageddon point options, those are the ONLY legal ways to split an Armageddon point :) (Catbarf your new list is fine now and I must say actually rather daunting... thats a HELL of a lot of hull and guns on those Orestes even if they do move at about the speed of continental drift ;)

Cool, again sorry for being nitpickey and I'm not trying to have a go at anyone (this whole Armageddon points split thing is pretty new after all, mistakes will be made :)).

The thing to remember is that the points split is there to make it easier to take a variety of different pls with your points NOT to get more of a PL than you normally could with standard splits :) Basically if you have more at any PL than you could get by splitting on point from the level above then you've done something wrong ;)

I've just updated the lists on page two and as far as I can tell everything is legal now. Locutus and I shall be playing on Tuesday evening (7:30 GMT) if anyone else is interested.

Also, Vassal 7.1 is the standard for this tourney but if you both have the new 7.2 and want to use it then go ahead.

And I have Heavy Missiles on the Olympi... Now I just need to figure out how to catch those damn Minbari

Laranos and I are set for 8pm tonight - I daresay spectators are welcome, but only if you want to see me fumble through the rules :)

Minbari vs. Minbari... guesses are even as to who's which caste.

Something tells me triggy wanted to thin out the minbari at the higher levels of the tourney.

I think he's biased. ;)

Well vs the Minbari Im rather expecting those poor little Olympus to be rapidly expanding clouds of vapour by the end of turn 1 but not sure how they'll cope with the two Oresetes which odly for an EA ship dont actually rely that much on interceptors anyway :D

Even at hull 6, the Orestes ought to have trouble with SAP from the heavy hitters (everyone seems to have either a Sharlin or Neshatan) and the Morshin+Sharlin fighter complement. 12 Nials will ruin any ships day...

After a very close game, with some very jammy dice rolling, Shai Alyt Alex's fleet accepted the surrender from Laranos;

Game was Space Superiority, terrain was 3 asteroid fields (see screeny below) the image shown is as it was when Laran resigned in Turn 4.

End score: to me: 1 Morshin, 7 Nials and 1 Flyer
To Laran: 1 Torotha and 1 Nial

I lost set up and init first turn (though I forgot my scout reroll - no matter)

Laran started with one Tigara in Hyperspace, I started with 2 Torothas in Hyperspace. Everything else began on the board.

His Morshin was situated between the two asteroid fields in the top left, his Tigara above it. My Sharlin was situated just behind the Asteroid field on my side, with the Morshin above it, and the Leshath further up.

Turn one, a quick jp bomb managed to wipe out one of my nials, which I recovered, and did 5/3 damage to the Morshin.

In return, 2 jps opened up on Laran's Morshin and did considerable damage and a -4 speed crit.

No other firing was possible - turn two, both Torothas enter through one JP, one having to all stop to come in close to the Morshin's aft, the other having to come out to its port side and turn in to just get forward arc. Only 2 Nials were able to get onto the first Torotha's base, and one sat off, not entering its minibeam arcs.

The first torotha took minor damage and -1ad crit from the fighters. However between them, both Torothas managed to pile on damage against the Morshin, further reducing its speed.
The Sharlin and Leshath attempt to get closer to the Neshatan, which is sat still in the middle of the table. The off-board Tigara closes its jp and waits.

Turn 3, and the Morshin limps forwards, with the Torothas nipping at its flanks. The Neshatan sits still, and the Tigara tries to get round behind the Leshath. The Leshath and Sharlin close into range, and reduce the stealth on the Neshatan

Meanwhile, fighters pile onto both Torothas, destroying one, but failing to destroy the other, which promptly 6/5 crits the Morshin with its pulsars, blowing it up, and taking most of the fighters with it.
My fighters pile on to the Tigara, but the game is called before they fire...
The leshath and the Sharlin fail to do anything to the Neshatan, whilst the Neshatan pops off a few fighters which are recovered by the Morshin.

At this point, the game was called as shown...

Good game there and well done Alex :)

I'm a little surprised you didn't slug it out between the two big guns as a favourable result for LaranosTZ would have put him back in the game (even though he was undoubtedly behind at that point). Good to see a game of tactics though and it looks like you had fun.

*shrugs* I wasn't really having all that much fun in that point of the game, and as soon as that happens, it's not worth my time to finish it out. Alex was a good sport about it, and I wish him luck in the rest of the tournament.

We'll sort out an unofficial rematch at some point - those two fleets are so closely balanced that it could easily have gone either way, and the dice that were being rolled were just very very jammy on my part.

Somehow those Torothas wouldn't die, and pulled that 6/5 critical out of their hat just when they needed it.

And yes, and undamaged Sharlin and an undamaged Neshatan barelling towards each other - it's all going to come down to stealth rolls as to who wins!

Catbarf's Earth alliance fleet: 2 Orestes, 2 Olympus and 2 Hermes.
Jayraiders Minbari fleet: Sharlin, Leshath, Morshin and Tigara.

Scenario: Assassination.
Targets: Sharlin and Orestes (b).
Ships in hyperspace: None.
Minbari win setup and initiative. Stellar debris: one dust cloud (top right corner) and one rocky planet (left bottom corner).

Turns 1 through 3. EA charge forward and straight into the Sharlins beams. They lose 1 Hermes and 1 Olympus in Turn 3.Another Olympus takes light damage. The two Orestes lag behind trying to catch up.
EA fails every stealth roll and also loses most of its starfurys, with no casualties for the Minbari.
Catbarf seeks save game at end of Turn 3, for recommencement tomorrow night. Minbari agree.

Up to this point Catbarf hasn't had any luck at all, with stealth really hurting him.
Stealth can be harsh on new players!. :)

Stealth can be harsh on experienced players too :P

Hope you both play the game to a satisfying conclusion and with both Orestes intact, the EA always have a chance.

Part 2 of Catbarfs Ea and my Minbari has been delayed till some time this week.
Anybody else got games planned?
I like watching the games, :)

yep, I'll be using vassal mod 7.2 btw Triggy if that makes any difference (i'll try to be online on time but might be slightly late (shouldnt be more than 10 mins late though :))
