Online Tournament - Vassal III

Triggy

Mongoose
Hey all, to get everyone back in the online Vassal mood, I'm setting up a very quick and easy online tournament - purely to get people playing a game or two and enjoying the online scene again. This tournament will be carried out using the Vassal mod for A Call to Arms, as recently updated by katadder and JayRaider and originated by GeekyBiker.

If you're interested in signing up for this tournament please post below but also read the rest of this thread! If you have any comments on the format please post here/PM me so that we can look at the issues.

To play, there are a few prerequisites that you need to look after. Firstly you need to download Vassal, java and the Vassal A Call to Arms mod. Then follow the instructions or PM me (or JayRaider/katadder if you have a specific question about the mod) to ensure that you can run everything alright. Needless to say, you also need an internet connection to play the game in realtime (rather than by e-mail).

There will be spaces for a maximum of 8 players (first come first served, and I'll be playing too!) and the tournament uses 1 Fleet Allocation Point at Armageddon level for fleets as per the latest fleet lists and rules (up to and including the Armageddon supplement):

Please be advised that there are a few typos in various rules and you can find the clarifications on this forum, particularly in this thread.

Your fleets will be chosen in advance and sent in a PM to me before the tournament begins and cannot be altered after the tournament begins. I'll generate a random fixture list and it will be a straight knockout to keep things simple.

Missions will be randomly generated as follows:
1-2 Call to Arms
3-4 Space Superiority
5 Assasination*
6 Annihilation

All missions except Assassination will have randomly generated terrain and all missions will allow each player to keep up to 2 Raid points' worth of ships in hyperspace. Also all missions will calculate victory points based upon the mission being a Raid level game.

* Assassination mission has both players choosing an enemy ship of highest Priority Level as a target. VPs gained from attacking this ship are doubled (including capturing and fleeing) but unless the ship is destroyed or flees from the battlefield then the ship's opponent will lose the battle (in the event both target ships survive the game, Victory Points determine the winner as normal).

Right that sums up the rules set, if you're interested and want to sign yourself up then please post below and if you have any questions then please also post them below. If you've signed up then PM me your fleet choices and it will stay secret until the tournament begins (or until you post it yourself).

sounds like fun, but not this time...I've got more to do now than ever before...! After the new year, let me know....!

Edited my first post to show victory points will be calculated as if the games are Raid level (even though the fleets chosen are one point Armageddon).

So long as everyone's got plenty of patience, I'll sign up (only used Vassal once before with LDD's kind tutelage).

Any idea what sort of times/dates we're looking at?

AAARGH!

Darned internet provider has problems giving me the connection I paid for(3 weeks from paying and not having connection...) and now you give this!

Bugger. I hope that the darned company sorts the connection ASAP!

Probably have all entrants sorted by the weekend, then all lists sent to me (if they haven't sent them sooner) and I do a magic, random draw and we all play each other as soon as possible. Probably have the first games in a week or so and the whole thing finished in 3-4 weeks from now.

Hey could someone be so kind to write a short introduction how to use Vassal? I m new to this system and i don t understand how to use it!
Gruß Patrick
PS: or has there already someone made one?

When will this take place exactly as I would love to take part but can only really play on Saturday or between about 8 and 11 GMT....

So far I have as entered (please correct me if I've missed you out):

Triggy
JayRaider
LaranosTZ
Angelus 2000
Waldronbob350

Tneva82, PMOS and Locutus9956 have shown an interest but not confirmed yet - it's first come, first served in this respect and only two more places left.

Locutus - those times should be fine as far as I can see (we'll even make sure the draw is ok if necessary)

Jay - making v7.1 mandatory is probably unnecessary but people should only be running an older version if they can't physically run this one.

well if those times are fine then count me in :)

I cant promise Ill be able to play on any given weeknight but I should be able to get at least one or two games around that sort of time in the evenings :) (remember though thats GMT times, so I am in fact 7 hours ahead of any of you out in the states....)

Thats a definitive 'yes sign me up' by the way ;) Do you need a fleet list submitted by the way? Or should I just post it up here?

I will be playing either ISA, Vorlons or Crusade EA (havent decided yet, waiting to see what others are playing as I want to play something different).

sorry if i have missed this but what is the year or is it a pick what eva, and dose it matter who you pick as a race even if it ends up with two players with the same race

Well I cant say for certain but its a tournament and doesnt really have a setting as such. Theres no in service dates and if you end up against someone with the same race thats just the way it goes, civil war time. Hell its not like the concept is particularly rare in B5 ;) Theres 2 full on civil wars in season 4 alone :P

ps. sorry for that slight spoiler for the 2 people who havent actually watched it all yet. I wont tell you which 2 races are involved though ;)

one more thing.... when is this actually going to start roughly? This weekend? The week after? Just want a bit of advance notice so I can avoid games clashing with World of Warcraft raids :P

Lists are from any era, any in-service date and against any opponent.

PM me your lists once you've entered as the sooner I have them all, the sooner I can post the lists and the matchups.

Games should potentially start this weekend (or as soon after as you can all arrange them) just as soon as we have the one last player sign up :)

One more player needed (although if I don't get someone, I'll start and one player gets a bye), can everyone PM me their fleets so that I have everything ready to go when we start.
