Online Tournament - Vassal III

I want to join, I'm new and I haven't really played much but I like Raiders and EA and I'll give this a try :D

Also, I've been using a friend's copy of armageddon but he just left on a trip, so I don't remember how to choose fleets at Armageddon level (how many strike carriers I can take etc.). I know it goes 1/2/3/4/6 but I don't know what a Patrol point is worth.

It actually now goes 1/2/3/6/12/24

If you're serious about entering then great, just PM me a fleet (and feel free to ask for advice on how the fleet is split/chosen. Take a chance to download Vassal and try it out before you play your first tourney game.

I'll post a confirmation list of entrants in the morning and if anyone else wants to be first reserve (a dropout may occur) then go ahead :) You can also reserve your place in the next tourney if you go for a reserve spot and don't get a game!

Just a question, can I use the 'special' Raider fleet? I cannot for the life of me recall the name, but I would love to have the Endgame. Also, can I have multiple Endgames?

I'm sorry, main lists only (along with the "official" S&P add ons such as the Sagittarius changes) so no Endgame Dreadnought.

Just waiting on Locutus's list then I'll post every fleet list up and the matchups for round one.

Please remember that this is a quick and simple tournament with something slightly larger in mind for next time Vassal IV). I appreciate you could be out after one game but even the winner will only play three!

That said, it should be a blast and raise interest in playing even more Call to Arms online :)

Hey Trig

You playing online games again, your obviously not having me fun having me rolling real dice.

Catch you later.

Cheers
Ben

Real dice are probably the only way you can beat me :P Even if the dice didn't favour you, at least you can physically take your revenge on real dice :)

Those of us from the minbari federation that have been refraining from playing until stealth became balanced have come crawling out of the woodwork. ;)

might I suggest unless youve played the games already that Catbarf just drop the 2 Chronos for 2 Novas? Then youve got a fully armageddon legal early years EA list :)

I only mention this as Id have LOVED to be able to chuck a couple of Oylmpus into my list but couldnt cos it was armageddon lists....

edit: actually can someone explain how that list is a legal 1 pt Arm list anyway?

You can only split one point per level remember....

1 Arm splits to 2 War or 3 Battle but you can only split ONE of those points further the others must buy ships of that level:

So splitting for 3 Battle: 1 Orestes and 2 points left you can only split one of those battle points any further.

You can NOT split one for the 2 Chronos and the other down to 2 raid splitting that those BOTH down for 4 Skirmish and splitting 2 of those for 4 Patrol! That list under the Armageddon points split is VERY illegal with FAR too many ships! Surprised noone noticed before me ;)

Splitting points is fine but you must remember you can only split down ONE point at each level and must spend any other points on ships of that pl:

For example: using Early EA: split 1 Arm to 3 Battle:

Take 2 Orestes and split the other down to 2 Raid, take 1 Nova and split the other down to 1 Olympus, split the other down to 2 Hermes.

You will note that this is ALOT less ships. (personally I wouldnt take the above list, Id be tempted to split initially for 6 Raid and take 5 Nova's and 2 Saggitarius).

Incidentally Im not suggesting you tried to cheat Catbarf, its an honest mistake (I hope :P), but you really DO need to fix it (whoever is in charge of this (triggy I think) should have spotted this really but never mind :P (sorry to be a party pooper, I'm in this for fun win or lose but I just like things to be fair ;))

Actually you can split the points any number of times using the "standard" splits but only one FAP can be split in half each time. This has been "clarified" in another Rulesmasters thread.

If he switched them for Novas that would be fine but I'm not too fussed if everyone else isn't.

Erm no I think your reading that wrong Triggy as frankly splitting it in half IS a standard split. You split only one point per level further though you can subsplit it with the standard splits too not just in half.

You CAN split your one point per level using the standard splits but still only one subslpit point per level of this.

Otherwise your just using the point split system to get more ships than you should be able to for that level...

Here's the permissable breakdown, as posted elsewhere on Rulesmasters by Burger (and confirmed by Matt) in that you can mix the two 'methods' for splitting points - i.e. split it down once to the level below, and then further to two levels below that:

Alright then, my list has been changed to make it legal and everything:
2 Orestes
2 Olympus
2 Tethys MB
All have Heavy Missiles

That is correct Cat, because you can only every split 1 of your points once you've split.

So, if you split your 1 arma into 3 battle points, you can only then further split 1 of those battle points, leaving you with 2 battle, and then whatever else you split into.

If you split from 1 arma into 2 war, you can then split one of those war into two battle points. This gives you 1 war, 2 battle. Then you can split 1 of those battle points, but not both. This gives you 1 war, 1 battle, and whatever else you split.

That's fine although IIRC the Tethys can't take missile variants (they take smaller missiles than standard anyway).
