One Last Pass at Peer Review?

Well, it was February, then March, now it is April, hopefully not April 1st.

Man, there must be a curse on Traveller, since I remember all the changes to the ship dates for T5.

What I do ask, is that the current text of the materials is posted for typo review.

I am not suggesting rule changes - I am simply suggesting text for us to ensure that no stupid errors are present in the printed edition.

Anybody who posts anything other than "thsi" should be "this" on page XX should be ignored.

At this point, I consider the playtest finished (no more rule changes) but I would like to ensure that this is properly vetted before I get the book in hand.

My FLGS is questioning my loyalty to Mongoose with all the cancellations of product lines and slipping ship dates. Please do not give him anymore ammunition by letting the product ship with stupid little errors in the material.

best regards

Dalton

I second this motion to give the game away for free...

The Game is being put out as an SRD, the text would not be formated, and would not include any graphics or diagrams - in other words, it is the same thing they have already promised to give us anyways.

Given the history of Traveller and the amount of typo's, errata and outright failures in the past, I don't think it is too much to ensure the product is correct before it hits paper.

Its not all going to be SRD.

I get the impression that the Mongoose guys are slogging away at getting the final version done and dusted and out there. Having another playtest pass is only likely to delay it by several more months.

One thing that could be done is to sell a pdf of the game BEFORE getting the dead tree printed. The pdf purchasers pick up any stupid errors that were missed so they can be corrected before the print run and are also sent updated pdfs. This seemed to work well with Green Ronin's True20.

I hate that myself. Why should I want to pay money for something that I know is likely to be full of errors? Nah, give me a final product that's had a couple of runs through the editing cycle and I'll be a lot happier.

When I say pdf I mean a pdf of the file being sent to the printer. Most pdf publishers let customers download updated copies of purchased pdfs, so you would get a corrected copy.
The advantage to the publisher is having fresh sets of eyes looking over the final doc before telling the printer to run the presses. Remember Guardians of Order's BESM d20 Revised that had large amounts of the original book due to an editing error? It got picked up immediately when the book went on sale but could have saved the company a LOT of money if it had been picked up in a pdf a few weeks earlier.
In the case of True20 errors were picked up in the pdf and corrected for the print run.

Even though I've pre-ordered the books, I'd love the opportunity to buy a pdf version first that we can proof read.

Mongoose could always supply purchases with a corrected pdf later.

I appreciate that Mongoose have raised their editing standards, but a public run through of the text would certainly help flush out any remaining gremlins before the core rulebook was printed.
