Oi !! Where's the Troll Poll gone?

burdock

Mongoose
Think it might have been me this time. I used the word "crap"

I felt it was an accurate adjective rather than an emotive response.

Hehe, it went the same way as the last thread discussing warping of Uz as we know them. :P

Hopefully someone in Mongoose get what kind of resistance the new pig-creatures are meeting by us consumers, and change it back before the release of "Guide to Trolls". :x

SGL.

hey trifle you've been following all this more than me.....do you know if the new Troll faces are just an artists idea? Or are they the official form? I can live with multiple artistic ideas. But I wouldn't be interested in owning books about Uz that had been warped so.

Well, either the artists were instructed to draw the trolls more pig-like, to make uz more into the nasty, ugly monsters that trolls are usually known as, or they just didn't care to instruct the artists in any way, not caring how they looked like, or how we old players would react. Both options are bad.

The feeling I'm getting, is that the pig-trolls take the place of uz, also in the upcoming book. I'm still hoping for a return to the old uz-appearances, but Mongoose seems to be content with pigs.

SGL.

EDIT: typo.

if what you say is true then I sadly wouldn't partake of these trollish (emphasis on ish) products. Shame because the Uz are one of my favourite things about glorantha.

Did your pms with DBC not enlighten you as to the official trollish form?

I like the look of them. They remind me of those pig-yokes, I mean moblins, from the various Legend of Zelda games.

Thats whats wrong with them.....they shouldn't be reminding people of such things. The Uz are their own species.

The great troll pic in the monsters book and the Uz pic on p81 of the GTSA is heading in the right direction, away from pig snouts.

I thought the Tusk Rider could have had a bit more snoutish a nose, since they are such unnatural and inbred folk [I'm thinking Royston Vasey type noses there].

Now you've done it - this thread is gonna go too!

eeeek!

Then I'll have to create another thread explaining why this one has gone......and then another explaining why that one has gone.....and then.......ad infinitum

Hi guys,

The first one went because a poll suggesting things to do to an artist simply because of a difference of opinion just ain't cricket. . .

While I generally agree that Uz look best in a "Trollpak stylee" to be fair when they first turned up in Glorantha they just looked like big geezers with massive hook noses and big ears, I've still got some of the figures somewhere.

I can see how the Goosey Art-Department got to the "Ickle Piggy Trolls" but I'd like them to stop now.

I can't say I'm hugely impressed with the Trollkin illustration in Monsters either it looks like a badly-dressed emo with big teeth who's been dumped in a latrine.

That's a fairly highly accurate description of Trollkin!

Hmm, okay. It was TRIF, though, and the tone wasn't exactly menacing. He was hardly heating the tar at the exact moment of posting. Or pulling pillows apart with his bare mandibles for feathers.

About the whole snout or no-snout trolls, I just would like to post here a picture from Les Dieux de Glorantha, p.69, at the entry concerning Lhankor Mhy. Guillaume Sorel is the artist who drew this illustration:

Yep. There's a snout. And it dates back to the 1980's, folks. So, I actually don't think trolls with snouts are anything new (I love this art piece by the way - Guillaume's really talented).

The illo is more of a half way house between the two imagings though, it's not just the snout, it's the bat wing ears and the bloody size of the thing that is difficult to reconcile.

And couldn't the options in the poll have been changed, rather than pulling it?

That is probably more difficult - It is possible to delete an errant post out of a thread, but I think the only way to change a poll is to delete it and start again.

OTOH RQ fans have been suggesting unpleasnt things to do to artists since Dave Dobyoski (Sp?) was allowed to do art as well as maps...
