Officialness of S&P

And they are designed using the VAS design system (AFAIK) so they are pretty consistent with the ships in the main rules.
The ships is the main rules are nowhere near consistent with each other! Compare Yamato to something like the Nelson.

Ah, now thats another story (if you are referring to PLs). What I meant was that the system by which speeds, armour, crew etc. are determined are consistent. :)

Reading something on the web just dosn't always come out the way you meant it. :? No way did I mean that all people who use an Iowa or Yamato are power gamers. If I was playing US or Japanese, I'd use em too. However, I do know a couple of people that fit that moniker. I was just trying to head off a potential future argument.

Edit; Also I think you are talking about a 5 point game. I've seen 11 point games already. Think of how many Yamato's and hordes of long lance destroyers a win at all costs type player could field with a 6,7,8,9 or more point game at war level.

Ooops, lots of answers since my last post. Don't get me wrong guys. I picked the German fleet because I liked the looks of the ships. I knew I'd be at a disadvantage vs Japanese or US players and I accept that. It was a pleasant surprise to see the Z Plan battleship that is slightly better than an Iowa and not quite as good as a Yamato. I don't plan on using it unless my opponent puts more than one Yamato or Iowa on the table. But, if they do, I'm just looking for reasonable arguments to include my one ship. If my opponent still objects to it, I'll play them with ships out of the rule book or I just won't play them.

Just noted the topic (late as usual...).
Since I was the guy writing the Z-Plan list I might add something.

The list is as unofficial as it gets. And also as official as possible.
Let me explain.

Since I was the lone German guy on the playtest list it struck me during the design that it would be cool to have some stats for the Z-Plan list.
So I wrote them using all available online resources and committed them to the playtest list. We talked about it for some time and I submitted the 3 articles (yes 2 more to come) to Mongoose. I used the same design priciples as on all other ships in the book, so I am quite convinced that the stats are as constistent as possible in VaS, BUT
they have no stamp of approval from Matt Sprange or anybody official from Mongoose.

On the contratry I am quite sure that Matt never even looked them up seriously. Recently he asked for some stats about the H-44 (long after discussed the ship on the list) and I could only point him to the Z-pLan list already commited...
:) Which is absolutely OK, his job is the design process and not reviewing fan articles...

So as unofficial as it gets, and as official also....

Anyway - just use anything you will find in S&P, it is all reviewed by the same people as the main rulebook.
BUT do not rely on that they will be allowed in any Tournament !
:)

Ohh - and watch out for the next 2 instalments in S&P - the big "Armageddon" (called here: Total War) stuff is still to come!
