Octurion Wings

Should they be slanting up or down? Just wondering how you guys do it..

I did mine slanting down.. Didn't think of the other possibility at that time.. And of course there was no instruction..

They should be level (or ever so slightly down depending on how your wings have been moulded this will determine which is right for your ship).

In the original AoG material, the wings sloped downwards with respect to the bridge.

Not that anyone cares, and I suspect that the locating holes dissappeared from the casting years ago anyway.

You can say that again. My oct was just about the most labour intensive ship I have put together for acta (don't mention shadow scouts) Not only had aforementioned locating holes dissappeared, the groves that fit the two side hulls to the center hull had filled in, and had to be ground out :?

On the plus side. Once I had finished the saga of drilling, grinding, pinning, and filling, I had one of the solidest minies I've ever put together.

Now that I've got that off my chest. To answer the OP, I put my oct together so the wings are flat. Like a primus.

The wings on both of my MGP Octurions were stamped R, though i havent seen any AOG ones. my guess is they are supposed to slope down (one side fits right for that) but the molds were damaged or incomplete and the matching side is not to be found.

Nothing comes even close to the frustration of putting a 13 piece 1" long model together (especially when the little nubs and holes were filled in or worn down).

I think that was the case with mine as well. Although I didn't notice the R. I recently noticed some photos where they seemed level (or even slightly upward), such as the MGP display model.

I suppose every Centauri Emperor had his own preferences :wink:

In any case, your model is built, which means you have two choices. You can leave the wings as they are, or you can rip them off, glue them back on, and try to get the paint job as good as it is now.

So one factor is how happy you are with the finish. If it's good, it's a shame to ruin it. If not, it might do no harm to try again.

Next, the Octurion isn't a canonical ship, Mongoose no longer support B5:ACTA, so there is no official way for how the ship should look. Your ship is as "realistic" as anyone else's. Based on the various replies here, the wings may be angled up, down or level, and probably are depending on whose model you look at.

It's your model, you're the one who will be looking at it most of the time. If you're happy with the way it looks, leave it like that.

The one I have now is due for a repaint, but otherwise I'm happy the way it is now, especially with a mass driver provided by Urobach (many thanks)..

1. Pure curiosity (as to the intention of the original sculptor)

OK, replace that with "the Octurion never appeared on screen".

My point is that there is no official One True Way as to how an Octurion should look, since there's no on-screen evidence and no support from anyone with a WB licence to make it official (unless B5 Wars does still operate under such a licence). So you can glue the wings on however you like.

Besides, AoG, original producers of B5 Wars, think a Vree Xorr looks like this, and also think a Drazi Warbird is smaller than a Sunhawk. Anything they have to say about the Octurion may be taken in that context. :lol:
