Obama and Conan!

This is (probably!) tongue-in-cheek, but funny stuff indeed....

The Onion is rumoured for its acid satires, so you can bet this is total fake.
There might be a layer of truth, though, as Obama could indeed be a Marvel comics fan, hence the article...

If so, times are really changing if America switched from old George W. to a Conan reading black president!

"Obama, an avid collector of Conan The Barbarian and Spider-Man comic books since he was a child, was referencing the 1977 story "The Tower Of The Elephant," written by Roy Thomas."

Ooh, faux pas, Onion.

You mean from a president from Texas who only reads Curious George, to a black president who reads Conan. I can live with that! ;)

Hear hear! :)

Conan would have no part with anyone who wants to enlarge government.
Obama should read closer to his hero instincts.
Obama aint Conan.

Riiiiggghhhht.....cuz Bush made the government smaller? I don't think Conan would want to hang with any modern-day politicians. When you pull the skin off of them, they are much more alike than they are different. :) On a side note, I didn't realize that by reading something, you are tying to be that thing?!?

This is not a political forum.

I never said that Conan would be hanging w/ Bush, either.

I know. I was just being sarcastic towards politicians in general. I'm not trying to ruffle feathers here, and since we've already been scolded, I'm not looking to continue joking about politicians.

I apologize if my bad attempt at humor upset anyone here.

Well, ADAPTED FROM THE REH STORY by Roy Thomas would have been better of course, but it is true that it was Rascally Roy who was in charge of the comics at the time and who was adapting REH stories and merging them with his own plots.

A holdover from the Bush administration, Gates told reporters he may have gotten off on the wrong foot with the new president, citing an occasion when Obama asked him what he knew about 1984's Secret Wars, a 12-issue limited Marvel release. Gates then handed a visibly confused Obama 1,400 classified pages on covert CIA operations in El Salvador.

Conan would certainly varnish the Capital Building's floor with the brains of ANY modern politician. Then he'd take their wine, women, and gold (in that order, of course), and then set about ruling as a beneficent despot.

No, but it is a discussion forum, and Bush, Obama and Conan would all probably have the same views on freedom of speech...sort of. (lol)

Nah, leaving them the sole responsibility of Roy Thomas is jsut what they deserve. He wrote the comics, and they are so far different from the COnan that REH wrote, that all accolade and blame should fall squarely on Thomas'shoulders (hehe)
