Non Glorantha settings.

Personally I agree, but I have players that want to play half elves. And what better way than to get them into RuneQuest than to go ahead and let them.

Well if they want to play half-elves and you can find a rationale, then why not.

In Glorantha they might be the unexpected side-effects of some God Learner meddling (a failed experiment with the plant and man runes).

They might be a lost tribe left over from the Gods War when elves sacrificed their place in the song in order to gain hot human blood to fight a chaos god.

They may be the recipients of a curse from Nysalor/Gbaji because they refused to take part in the First Council.

They may not even be Aldryami. Perhaps sometime before time, some humans found a connection to the green song and in one place they became the guardians of the forest. The outside world knows them as half elves but the Aldyrami refuse to acknowledge any kinship.

Glorantha is big and diverse enough to accommodate most things, and, in the end it is your Glorantha. Do what is most fun for you and the players.

Ask yourself if they may be mostly plant with some human features or the other way around. That should tell you how to create the stats. Creating new creatures in RQ is easy. You generate 7 stats, decide on a value for MOV and, if appropriate, give them a trait or two. Job's a good un.

Main thing is to give the players what they want and then say with a smile on your face, "be careful what you ask for because you might get it."

Slarges and Dragonewts are pretty much out for crossbreeds due to their reproductive methods, unless you totally ignore their biology.

Broo beget broo upon anything with a pulse. (Whilst the unfortunate female of whatever species dies as the 'baby' broo does an alien). So a very large proportion of broo are, kind of, crossbreeds.

Gloranthan elfs are pretty much impossible to breed with (hence Pavis being so unique). It would be like crossing a tulip with a housecat.

Mind you Chaos can twist almost anything into a cross form if it felt like it, and Delecti had his own methods (cutter and stitcher). Not true half-breed, but still...

Out of Glorantha this is more likely. After all fantasy can be messed about with pretty easily to fit your own ideas.

Blaming dead people is the way to go, I find. Less likely to come round to your house and punch you on the nose!

Wasn't this about non-Gloranthan settings?

But, back to the threadjack - I think I stepped in some Brog doo.

Well if players want it then it cant be a bad thing, no matter how much a GM dislikes it. Since they are devoting their time to ones game, I suppose they deserve a say.

So do you propose for the idea:

1> Create something entirely new with its own stat rolls
2> Roll stats for one parent and give it different traits/abilities?

I find it hard to see how a cross between a human and an aldryami would work, but since we are talking non gloranthan settings...

Hmmm....

Are we talking crosses between 'player races' as listed in the monsters book or stuff like half demons/angels/dragons from D&D?

This is not a Glorantha set game, so the Elves are your standard fantasy types elves straight out of the creatures book.

Um Broo beget Broo regardless of the "mother" being female or male.
