Newbie Sorcery Question

I'm trying to figure out the casting time and magic point costs of sorcery. The way it reads to me is each point of manipulation increases the cost and time, but examples ive seen here on the forums seem to imply that only each type of manipulation increases the cost. Which one is it?

As far as I remember, the cost of a Sorcery spell is 1, + 1 for each manipulation added (no matter what the manipulation level is) + 1 for each combined spell.

So, if I combine Form (Iron), Animate (Iron) and Haste in one spell with increased duration and range, it will cost 5 PM (1, +2 for 2 additional spells added, +1 for range, +1 for duration).

Cost for sorcery is 1 MP plus 1 MP for each Manipulation. Casting time is 1 CA plus 1 CA for each Manipulation.

this phrasing was my problem. "each Manipulation" can be read different ways. Both in the way of +2 duration is one Manipulation and the way of each +1 duration is one Manipulation so +2 duration is two Manipulations

"One Manipulation" refers to any amount of manipulation regardless of its value. So Duration +5 is one Manipulation as is Duration +1. Duration +1 and Targets +1 would be two Manipulations.

IIRC, the casting time for a sorcery spell is a number of CAs equal to the number of Manipulations with a minimum of 1 CA. So a spell with no Manipulations is 1 CA; 1 Manipulation is 1 CA but 2 Manipulations is 2 CAs and so on.

The cost is equal to 1 MP plus the number of Manipulations.

Example Wrack cast with Range +3 and Targets +5 is 2 Manipulations and would cost 1+2MPs = 3MPs and take 2 CAs to cast.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, this is confusing me.
So a spell that hits 2 people in a 20 meter range costs the same MP as a spell that hits 100 people over 10km? (it's always just 2 manipulations)

That's correct. The higher your skill, the more effect you can get out of a Magic Point. Someone with a Manipulation of 35% can only manage 4 points of Manipulation for their Magic Point while someone with a Manipulation of 135% can get 14 points of Manipulation.

A Magus gets a lot more power out of their Magic Points than an apprentice.
