new iphone Traveller game coming?

Ever played the PC version of Harpoon? It has 'real time' but with a speed up and speed down option, has essentially tactical radar display rather than graphics aside from a 'zoomed in' window showing weapons fire from the firing ship and striking the target ship but that's all. It works very well, and to this day remains the grand-daddy of naval wargames...

No, only played the original box game. But, what you describe is basically what I envisioned.

But then thats not what the Traveller RPG is really about at all.

I don't think that matters. Unless, you are interacting with other people there is no such thing as a computer RPG anyway. It is properly a strat/tac computer simulation game.

A turn-based wargame would be great, but this is a MMORPG, and space combat is only one part of it.

Don't worry about the ships, they're (almost) all canon ones.

Suggest seeing if you can blag a copy somewhere - it's pretty much abandonware at this point, but it's damn good as the last thing they did was open it up to 3rd party mission/battleset developers.

I'll look around. Could be fun.

Oh, I didn't see that in the description. Well, if it ever gets ported to a viable platform for a MMORPG I'll check it out.

hey everyone, i was at SXSW Screenburn today and did see the Traveller_AR booth.

They had live demos for the press or "uber-traveller" fans only, and I didn't want to wait (I'll go back tomorrow to when there is no line).

But their booth and video looked cool. neat credit-card thingy they were handing out (1,000,000 Galactic Credits)

Here a pic from their facebook page:

More tomorrow

My vision for PnP RPGs has always involved technology. I have a vision where the GM and all players are in one room together. Each player has an Ipad/Playbook or the like. On it they can browse their character, browse specs for ships, browse notes they have made in the game, browse game/combat charts, browse maps and so on.

During the game the GM could send players additional information or graphics as they became available. Still conversation, dice, role play, knowledge of rules and so on, but an IPad/Playbook instead of paper for each player.

Probably just be a dream until I'm 80.

A nice idea. Also, running an Instant messenger programme leaves open the GM's ability to 'prod' individual players without anyone noticing. Expecially useful in games like paranoia...

Common in online games now (Or using IRC).
