new iphone Traveller game coming?

Cute.

Wouldn't get my hopes up though - all I saw was some of Andrew's very nice work - hopefully used with permission. But nothing 'running' on an iPhone.

The 'screenshots' weren't anything more than simple mockup and the vague 'augmented reality' integrated with the camera stuff is, well, just sounds like total bunk.

Given the lack of anything concrete - especially true screen caps - the 'nine years in the making (for a platform that hasn't existed for most of that time) and the 'Summer 2011' release date is an even bigger tip-off that this is vaporware at best. :(

Good points!

Although the SXSW page says they are doing Demos for the Press:

"ingZ is announcing a NEW MMO RPG game for iPhone at SXSW, based on The Pen & Paper RPG: Traveller. http://www.Traveller-AR.com
PRESS: Stop by the booth for a live demo of the game! OTHERS: Come to the booth and sign up for the BETA!"

Think I'll whip out my Blogger press badge and check it out.

Well, let us know if you see anything other than a simple video on an iPhone ;)

IIRC, some years back a company announced an online MMO for Traveller that never panned out...

As to making custom Traveller support apps on an iPhone - well no problem there (my iPod 4 ones are coming along just fine ;) - but, as they will probably never be on the App Store, and my devel keys expire regularly even for me, there probably isn't much point other than to show everyone else what they could have...)

Limited audience and no open channel. Don't expect it to go anywhere.

Expect what to go where? :P

Limited audience is a relative thing and irrelevant in this case - Traveller, like it or not, is a 'niche' market and like most, I've never distributed any of my Traveller software in the last 30 years - these are for my own private use.

The issues are purely legal and desire.

As to 'no open channel' - the App store 'channel' is only really closed to malware, crapware, porn and direct competition with Apple products and those who do not want to pay Apple $100 a year (for access to non-public info and hosting) ;)

I for one would love any iPhone apps... (helper or otherwise).

BP, I just sent you a PM.

/stoked about the renewed interest in Traveller games & apps all of the sudden!

Andrew Boulton has confirmed providing the models - which gives some credence to this!

However, he didn't have anything to add about the actual application. Hopefully its more than just his pretty artwork. ;)

Okay, if you didn't have a real point just say so in the 1st place.
Already explained -

If one has created something for oneself, the limit of the audience is obviously irrelevant. With development done without compensation, even distributing for money, the size of the 'audience' would be irrelevant considering it requires very little direct capital investment (heck, its basically 'free' via the AppStore if one already pays the dues for loading an app on the iDevices). Sure it affects 'ROI', but that is another issue - hence the prepositional phrase 'in this case'.

So - how do you figure 'Limited audience' is relevant in this case?

This is about a proposed commercial product. I see now where the conversation went off the rails.

Hey everyone, I was browsing through the SXSW Interactive festival going on in Austin and came across this interesting tidbit.

Anyone know anything about this supposed Traveller iPhone Game?
http://sxsw.com/interactive/screenburn/arcade/exhibitors?action=exhib_show&id=S11-3705
Sounds interesting based on their website:
http://www.traveller-ar.com

Beta release about the start of July.
Full release at the end of July.
More vids and screenshots next week.
Free to play but you can purchase extra Cr's with real $'s.
Need 3GS or better model to play. (3G will not work because it does not have a compass.)
Droid version to be released 6-12 months later if reception is good.
AR is used to give 360 views of starports and space etc.

.

Huh - I just so happen to be going to SXSW next week. Technically I'm going for Film related stuff, but there's always some overlap.

I'll check it out.

I just gotta say, I don't get the commie stuff...

And the new screenshots they posted today looked pretty sweet.
