new fleet boxes -wrong size?

Not until this very minute, I'm trying not to read too much till I'm over this concussion properly.

But thanks for the pointer Greg, that answers my question.

BTW, has anybody started working the breakdowns on these boxes yet?

I have assumed the fighters are bought seperately:

Drakh
2 fast destroyers (3R)
2 light cruisers (3R)
9 raiders (9 skirmish)
Total 4 battle plus 1 skirmish = 2 skirmish short

Note: if you assume this is split 1B = 1R & 2Sk, then it is 1 skirmish point over.

Centauri
2 primus (2B)
2 centurion (2R)
6 Vorchan (6s)
8 sentri (2p)
Total 4 battle, 3 skirmish = 1 skirmish short

Drazi
1 storm falcon (1b)
2 firehawks (2r)
3 warbirds (3s)
6 sunhawks (6p)
8 starsnakes (1p +2flights)
Total 3 battle, 3 skirmish, 1 (and a bit) patrol = 1 battle and 4 flights short

The Drazi box isn't 5 battle however the FAP works!

Early EA
2 Orestes (2b)
2 Nova (2r)
1 sagi (1s)
2 Hyperion (2s)
2 Artemis (2s)
8 nova SF (1p + 3 flights)
Total 4 battle, 1 skirmish 1 (and a bit) patrol = 2 flights plus 2 skirmish ships short.

The third age EA
2 Omega (2B)
2 hyperion (2r)
3 oly (3s)
2 artemis (2s)
1 Oracle (1s)
8 aurora (2p)
8 t/bolts (2p)
Total 4 battle, 2skirmish, 4 patrol (which is spot on if you break down 1 skirmish = 2p)

Narn
1 G'Quan (1b)
1 T'loth (1r)
3 G'karith (3r)
1 shokar (1s)
1 Katoc (1s)
2 T'rak (2 sk)
8 Frazi (1p + 3flights)
4 battle, 1 patrol = short 4 patrol and 2flights

The ISA is actually over by 4 patrol points

The Minbari is over by 3 skirmish and 1 patrol

Shadows are over by 4 flights

Vorlons are over by their 8 fighters

(Note: all this assumes nothing changes in the printed fleet book).

I still think I must have missed something as I never saw the published 2nd ed. splits until the layout pdf was circulated a couple of weeks ago...

I don't think we saw the splits in exactly this form in any of the updates we had or any of the layout pdfs.

We saw three layout pdfs (rules twice, and fleet book) each of which had a different breakdowns, different methods of splitting and a different example in the fleet book. The final update was different again and all of those are different to the published version.
I'll think you'll forgive my confusion (and incredulity) then :?

Not really related to the size of the fleet box but does anyone else find it somewhat amusing that the Early Era EA fleet box has an avenger as the largest ship on its cover despite that fact that its not even in the box.

Maybe its just me, I just got a chuckle out of it.

Our local group came up with the following suggestion:

1). All ships that are Patrol-level purchases that are purchased collectively (2-for-one, 3-for-one if such are designed in the future) are fired individually, unless squadroned.

Isn't that the case anyway?

"The player who won the Initiative Phase nominates one of his ships and then attacks with it, resolving all damage dealt"

Am I missing something ? :)

Yes. The changes to the FAPs came late. Arguably they should have been the first thing we got right.
No arguement from me, that should definitely be the first thing that was set in stone. Then, the relative worths of the different PL ships compared to each other could make sense. It is pretty pathetic that a situation such as this should arise. 2e fleet boxes are redesigned to be 5 battle, then the FAP breakdowns are changed so that none of the fleet boxes are 5 battle any more. Inconceivable!

Da Boss

Chris's note only makes sense in the context of the other bullet points. What was being postulated was that the ships that could be bought multiple to a patrol point be forced to act as a squadron. We didn't like that, but wanted to control initiative sinking. So we proposed that movement be linked (or set to a minimium of one patrol point's value) without also linking fire.

We needed to see the 'ships fire separately because we had had the previous discussion about using squadron rules. What you needed was that movement be a minimum of one patrol worth of ships per activation.

Just took a look at the reworked boxes - pretty good! Scout´O´Mania with the Vree, two Tinashis with the Minabri, two G´Quan with the Narn; Pa´Ma´Ra box has two gunships, and so on... I like them.

Cool, sizes are fixed!
No Sunhawks in the Drazi box makes me cry though :(
Early EA picture looks a bit funny... someone been playing with Photoshop? ;)

There seems to be a whole symmetrical type thing going on with the contents pictures.

Looks like some useful content in the boxes though.
