New fighters in actual games

prob is starfuries now got an upgrade in dogfight they should never have got, they are as good as sentris and nearly upto nials standard. i wont even use sentris in my centauri fleet, raziks all the way. but 4 flights isnt too much to worry about, my tigaras have been gettin attack by multiple flights, taking some damage then blowing them away. the starfuries only get one attack run. however i do believe all EA fighters need their dogfight dropping back down, and thunderbolts should perhaps be dodge 3+ like most other heavy fighter/bombers. they got hull 5 to protect them anyway so combined with their firepower, the dodge and the dogfight score and that you get so many of them i think t-bolts are the best in the game.

What, EA got the best of somthing, I am shocked, Space Marines!!

Maybe this isn't the best thread but close enough. I ran into a question in my last game about fighter dogfights. The rules state that you get a +1 to your dogfight roll for each additional fighter in base contact with the target fighter. The question rose of how they engage.

Say I have to move first and move all of my fighters (6 Delta-V) keeping in base contact with each other. My opponent moves later, can he pick off one flight at a time by moving two or three flights into contact with a single Delta-V, or are all the D-V considered to be in the dogfight?

Similarly, say he moves a single fighter and manages to put it in base contact with two of my flights, are both of my flights tied up in the dogfight?

What happens if I have the 6 flights about 1/4" apart and he puts 5 flights wedged in between/in contact with all my flights, does that mean that it becomes a giant furball where all fighters are considered to be in one?

Point 1 he can pick em off one at a time. A dogfight is only happening when each fighter is in vbase to base contact with an enemy ship

point 2, yes, both your ships are tied in a dogfight with one nial.

Point 3, eep! but um, yes, Big furball of a fight, would be a pain to sort out i suppose.

as hiff says:

1) your only engaged if your touching an enemy fighter, otherwise youre not in the fight at all.

2) Yes its specifcally clarified in armageddon that you can move into contact with multiple flights and engage them both.

3) yes if theyre all in contact with an enemy in an alternating chain like that theyn techically theyre all engaged in a gigantic dogfight if you want to avoid this simply spread your fighters out a little ;)

There is one exception to the above incidentally, namely Dilgar thorun dartfighters can engage in a dogfight by getting withing 2" of an engaged flight..... they can really swamp fighters rather well.....

Well, that drastically changes how a lot of battles went in the past. We had played under the assumtion that you count out how many fighters are in contact to a furball, not just how many were contacting the enemy.

For the record as I mentioned earlier I DO think Minbari should get 2 per wing of their fighters but I can certainly cope with them NOT getting so. Personally I cant remember EVER buying an independant wing of fighters for them, even in the initial release when all fighter guns were precice.....
I've been saying this for months and that was before the tourney lists came out! I see no reason why they still shouldn't get two per Patrol point.

Minbari my backside, what about the League?
I won't shed any tears for the Minbari players.
Great ships and stealth what more do u friggin want?

I have found the new fighter rules to actually give them teeth, if used correctly.

I usually play Minbari so have those special considerations to think about but the new dilemma can be do you fire at ships that have already fired at you this turn to drop them for next turn, or do you fire at the ships that haven't fired yet?

I think the new rules create good new dynamic, and can effect the descion of what to shoot at.

The ability of Fighters to chew up interceptors helps a lot (when not playing as the minbos).

And generally, the fact that they can shoot first gives them some offensive punch.

The issue with fighters like all ships is tactics and posiitioning--keep fighters toghter, only present limited abiulities to fire at them, use thier sheer numbr to your advantage. IF possible present the opponent with the choice--shot at a cap ship or shoot at a fighter? From experience it can be a dillemma--Should you fire your fusion cannons at pesky fighters that already hit you this turn and will do it again next turn, or try to take hit that capital ship that is lighted up and will hit you this turn? I will often hit the capital ship (dependign ont he situation), but at the least, the fighters can provide some cover for the cap ships.
