Need some help with size comparison between ST and W40k

Hi.

I'd really like to start playing the Starship Troopers tabletop too, but none of my buddies i play Warhammer 40k with, wants to start another system and i lack the money too.

Still i like the Arachnid modells that much that i'd like to use them within my Warhammer 40k Tyranids army.

I'd like to start by using Rippler Bugs as winged Tyranid Warriors, because i think the Ripplers look great. The problem is, i wasn't able to find out whether the size of the Ripplers fits for that, or whether they are much bigger or much smaller than the Games Workshop Tyranid Warrior miniatures.

Is there somebody here who knows both systems and can tell me whether the Rippler Bugs and the Tyranid Warriors are about the same size and if not, wich one is bigger and how much bigger?

That would be great.
Thanks in advance.

PS: And in case i cannot use the Ripplers, is there a posibility to buy just the wings of the Rippler Bugs, so i could put them on original Tyranid Warrior miniatures? I just think those insect wings look way better than those boring bat/demon wings they always use on GW miniatures.

Wow, great.
Yes, this pictures help a lot.
Thank you very much!

Seems they are a little bigger than a Tyranid Warrior, but not too much.

By the way: What a coincidence. We're almost from the same place.

Hehe that's funny indeed.

I agree with you 100% about 40k! :D

This place is excellent for referencing scales -

rofl  *laughs and falls from chair*

Yupp that side is pretty cool. I think they should compare the bigger Bugs (Tanker, Plasma) with 40k Tanks and AT-43 Vehicles.

@ Lieutenant Rasczak:
Thanks for the link. A nice site, but unfortunatelly they don't have either the Rippler Bug, nor the Tyranid Warrior there.
Still i'll keep the link. Will surely come handy one day.

You can guage the rippler bug by comparing the miniature to the base size.

I'm going to be doing some coverting of 40k miniatures to SST stats once the rules come out. Maybe the best way you could get your buddies to switch would be by letting them try out the rules with the models they already have first!

I've always thought the SST rules were better than the 40k rules. . . but I never switched because of the painting MORE armies of miniatures issue. . . on top of the lack of player saturation that 40k has.

Now that the minis are pre-painted, I'm hoping that SST will get off the ground as a worthy competitor. We'll see how it goes!

Could you fling copies my way for the Website?

Yes, a good idea.

Galatea, who doesn't live far from me, offered to meet me for a test game to show me the rules. Maybe i can convince some other 40k players to have a look too.
I'll need some time to save up the money for starting a new system, but i think i will start with buying the rulebook and the army books.
But i guess i chose a bad time for that, with a new edition of the game coming out soon. I guess i should wait till then anyways.

You don't play 40K anymore? In case he has an interest in SST you have a group of 5-7 players at FUNtainment in Sturttgart?

Am I somewhat correct or way off target here?

On-topic though, the SST minis are, if I recall correct, a little larger than 40K ones (comparing MI Troopers with Catachan Jungle Fighters).

You're right here. I haven't played 40k for more than 3 years now.
It appears just boring to me (and that's my personal point of view).

We have a group of about 7 people who actually have minis, know the basic rules and are willing to play - and a few more (three or four as I remember) who are interested.
They just need to get organised and that's what I'm doing right now.

Sure. But I'm waiting on the SST rulebook to even begin writing, so it will be a little while?
