Need a hand getting to grips with solar system generation

Hopeless

Mongoose
After a bout of character generation resulted in generating details about the Fulacin and Kinorb systems (including Fulacin gaining a couple of gas giants in the process!) I am trying to fine tune this system by trying it out on Zeycude in the Cronor sector of the Spinward Marches.

Relabelled the Double Gamma Sector Zeycude or Secord is set 150 or so years after whats detailed in the marches sourcebook.

Its current UWP is D-331-7 Poor, Desert.
(I'm currently ignoring govt and law levels until I'm ready to fill in the details when its needed)

My generating has resulted in Secord being part of a double M5 red star system.

Secord Alpha has 6 gas giants and a single s-type asteroid belt with the nearest orbit taken up by a small gas giant and an empty sixth orbital point (so total of 8)

Secord Beta however has one inhabitable world and along with 3 s-type asteroid belts a total of 5 Gas Giants with the furthest being of Large size.
Secord itself is volcanic and largely a desert world with a very thin tropical region the source of its very thin atmosphere and is largely devoid of most marketable minerals except for a scarce deposit of industrial crystals, gemstones, light metals and very rare minerals that has to be mined to be accessible.

What I'm thinking is that the asteroid belts were once locations for other terrestrial worlds that were destroyed mostly due to the large number of gas giants and the double set of stars themselves, Secord has remained mostly due to its proximity to Secord Beta but is barely habitable and even that requires some kind of dome city with the tropical region being the best place for its location.

The excess number of Gas Giants make it an ideal place for an orbital refuelling station making full use of this abundant fuel source but I was wondering what you thought about this since the game I've been planning may not be near here (yet) but as Secord/Zeycude is set within Theocratic space (Zhodani) it might make a good alternative site for an adventure.

Too much too soon?

I'm looking at generating all the solar systems in the Spinward Marches' Regina sub-sector. I've read it up and made notes (essentially an update of my "Tell me about the stars" document).

I'm curious: which rules did you use (if any) to generate your solar systems? I'm interested in using them myself. Bear in mind I've only got the Mongoose Traveller books and GURPS Space 2e

Thanks :)

Ditto, many moons ago I asked in a thread on this very site suggestions for what book to use to generate more details on the solar system and was advised to try Gurps Space 2nd edition which I did and when I asked my players if they wanted to try their hand at generating details on their characters home star system only one did and he too had a copy of Gurps Space 2nd edition!

Since only he did that meant I have only bothered with Fulacin (his character's home system) and the neighbouring system of Kinorb to try out a variation of Beltstrike however I figured trying to generate Zeycude would give me a better idea of how to handle things once they decide to investigate the rest of the Marches.

My original idea was a little far fetched now I've run a couple of sessions (introductory adventure which was a play on the start of Phantom Menace and their current character's first session) I'm reworking my original idea and was wondering how this would go down once I do.

I have two half-finished adventures set on Kinorb and Heya and have generated a considerable amount of background information about both worlds and also something about the Heya system. All based on whatever canonical information is available (not a lot for Kinorb, quite a bit for Heya).

My prospective future editor would probably prefer that I don't post it publicly (?), but I'd be happy to send it to you by private e-mail (especially if you'll give me feedback :) ). My e-mail address is 'ranckeATyoumailDOTdk' (substitute @ for AT and . for DOT).

If you want some geological babble, and possible adventure sources ...

Gemstones often come from localised volcanic intrusions - google "kimberlite pipes".

Id say that "industrial crystals" neatly describes gemstones that arent big or pretty enough to be gemstones.

Note that you dont have river systems and whatnot to concentrate metals, but your "light metals" could include mineral sands that have been concentrated by the very slow shifting of sand dunes and whatnot.

Very rare minerals could include stuff that comes out of, well, active volcanoes *handwave handwave*.

So, Our Heores can and should be doing gravity surveys, going into the deep desert to sample sand, and mucking around in New, Active Volcanoes to see if they are spewing Valuable Stuff.

The Domed Cities should be - in my view - big, movable circus tent type things, so they can relocate to the next Boom Site.

I normally try to leave established details that matter alone. That corner of the Marches is difficult to get around in because of system spacing, sparse wilderness options, and, of course, being loaded with wary Zhodani...

The changes I made is that the Theocratic Consulate (my version of the Zhodani) are religious extremists who have access of psionics and better trained personnel to make up for being seriously outnumbered by their main enemy the Solomani Empire.
When I was figuring out what changes would happen I wondered why would they still have any people present in such inhabitable systems... still didn't expect to generate that many gas giants though...

More than one fuel source in a solar system isnt particularily important.

As far as living in barely-inhabitable places goes, a dton of 14m3 is roughly 10 tons.

Assuming minimal effort at recycling, a ton of food and water will keep someone going for about a year, at 2 liters of water and a kilo of food a day.

A mining colony presumably exports minerals, and so food and can be backloaded in on the shipping that takes minerals out.

A single Far Trader with 100 dton cargo capacity coming in and out every 2 weeks can therefore ship 2600 dtons of cargo ... or enough to support 26 000 people by itself.
